Black Widow’s new duds
Marvel
The Black Widow movie continues teasing us, making a stop at D23 the other day where some footage was screened—sounds like the same kitchen fight scene between Natasha Romanov and Yelena Belova—though the cast, still filming, was not present for this one. We do have, however, some new Black Widow duds to examine. Full Story
Black Widow Officially Exists

This year’s Comic-Con was strangely quiet, especially on the film side, so quiet that Marvel didn’t even have to pull out all the stops to “win” the weekend with their Saturday evening panel. All they had to do was literally show up, which is what they did. Marvel rocked up to Hall H and spent 90% of their panel confirming news we already knew, including confirming that the Black Widow movie is real. Full Story

Rachel Weisz was at the Oscars as a nominee last night for Best Supporting Actress for The Favourite and Daniel Craig was there as a presenter and they’re married so… you’d think they’d come together, right? They walked the carpet together not too long ago at the Golden Globes but they did not arrive at the same time. Full Story

Roma and The Favourite have the most Oscar nominations (10) this year. And, since it’s the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, The Favourite was always expected to do well at the BAFTAs. Roma took Best Picture, maintaining its position as the frontrunner with two weeks now to go before the Oscars, and Oscar voting set to begin on Tuesday and this is a strong showing, for sure. Yorgos Lanthimos is not interested in teaching a history lesson, so The Favourite is an historical drama heavier on drama than historicity. Telling the story of Queen Anne, Sarah Marlborough, and Abigail Hill, The Favourite takes a series of events and bends and twists them into a tale of power, women, sex, and privilege. Full Story
The Favourite begins campaigning
The Favourite is one of my favorite films of the year—yes, I see that, too—and it will be rolling out starting next week, beginning a hopeful Oscar charge. Leading the way on that is a cover feature in The Hollywood Reporter with its trio of stars, Olivia Colman Full Story
It’s not all Gaga
WENN
A Star is Born is a big movie. It has emerged as the Oscar Best Picture frontrunner – for now. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga will receive multiple nominations. But that doesn’t mean that they’re running away with it. And they shouldn’t run away with it. Anybody running away with anything is no fun for anyone. Full Story
Fancy Historical Treachery
History is bonkers. This is a fact. It’s the one thing truly getting me through this moment in American history—I’ve been revisiting our past and it is a constant reminder that all of history is comprised of madness and cruelty, and somehow, we always survive. This is also why I love history, because you can’t make this sh*t up. Full Story

I can’t remember the last time we saw Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig on the red carpet, can you? Definitely not in 2017. Maybe 2016? The point is it doesn’t happen often. I last posted about them in December after they spent the holidays in Paris Full Story
