Andrew and Monica go East
The last time we checked in on Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro they were grocery shopping and Sarah was judging their bathroom tissue choices - so, basically, their life choices. I agree with her, even for those of us who don’t have Oscar nominations, and both of them are Oscar nominees, Scott is crazy. For me, since I didn’t get to weigh in on this, I was in Korea, it’s Cashmere bathroom tissue… MADE IN CANADA!
Speaking of toilets though, since I was just in the east, Korea isn’t like Japan were almost all the toilet seats are warm and welcoming, but there are some. Like the toilet at our hotel was heated, and that was the one I used the most so when I got home and went to the bathroom, on top of the jetlag, the cold was a shock on my ass.
That was my indelicate segue to get Japan in on this conversation, my favourite country in the world. Where no toilet is terrifying. A train station in a small town? A wonderfully clean toilet. A hole-in-the-wall burger joint in Shibuya? Perfectly serviceable clean toilet. A tiny okonomiyaki joint in Hiroshima? Spotless.
There is never a reason to fear having to use the toilet in Japan, because they are civilised, considerate, decent people! Here in North America I plan my day around where I’m going to use the toilet because so many of them are scary. The freedom in Japan, though, to go about your life, drinking as much water as you want, without having to worry about contamination by elimination … it’s the best, I love it so much and I can’t wait to go back and, by the way, this is where Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro are right now.
They were spotted in Kyoto yesterday (thanks Caitlin!).
@purplewallflower Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro spotted in Kyoto, Japan 🌸 Spoke to him for a few mins today and he was SO SWEET! Note for context: these clips were all taken in a span of like 5 seconds down the same hallway. At first I couldn’t tell if it was him, so was trying to confirm (that’s why it’s zoomed in). After they turned, I went on my original way to another part of the floor. Later on, in the same shopping store, I went to the restroom and when I came out he had just left the men’s restroom next door. I briefly spoke to him (without a phone during our encounter), wished him a good trip in Kyoto, and he smiled/thanked me for coming up & saying hi #andrewgarfield #andrewgarfieldedit #andrewgarfieldtiktok #monicabarbaro

It’s a great time to go and in Kyoto especially, with all the temples surrounded by Sakura, the petals floating around them like it’s a painting, I’m so jealous I want to cryyyyyyy. And I have so many questions!
Are they travelling through Japan by train, which is the most convenient and also really fun? Are they staying in a ryokan in Kyoto – highly recommend. How many times a day do they hit up the 7-Eleven? Are they amazed at how many department stores there are and how much better the clothes are?!?
How long are they there for? What other cities are they doing?
Sorry, let me bring this back because we are not a travel blog, we are first and foremost a gossip blog. And the gossip here, related to travel, is this: you don’t go to Japan for just a weekend. If they’re in Kyoto, they must also have already been to Tokyo or are headed there and maybe other cities, like typically you want at least two weeks in Japan, and it’s not like they don’t have the money.
So my point is, this is two weeks, minimum, I’m assuming, every single day together, in a place where it looks like they’re relatively undisturbed (in comparison to the west), just walking around and exploring, under the cherry blossoms…
Japan is so lovely it enhances love. That’s where Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro are.
