August 16, 1958. That’s her birthday. She turned SIXTY.

Angela Bassett is six decades old. She is the same age as Madonna.

She is the sleekest, most stylish woman at these awards and nothing as petty as a live television show, or mispronouncing a name, or even genuine joy at presenting with Tiffany Haddish, who was overjoyed to do the Wakanda salute with her, is going to interrupt her ridiculously sleek style.

Here’s what I hate about that. It makes me like her dress, even though I’ve never in my life liked a dress that looked like this, especially with silver embroidery on the waist. Worse, it makes me think that I could pull off glasses like this:

If I had been invited to peruse items that were free, if they were to my liking, while wearing a white evening gown with truly incredible sleek hair… I dream that when I am 60, this will be a conceivable reality for me.

This is how Angela Bassett Emmys. You can try but you will never reach her heights. I know I should end a post like this with ‘why can’t she host some year’, but I don’t want that. I just want to marvel at her and – even better – see her look out at everyone and know that they are marveling at her. What would that even be like? Like obviously Teigen and John Legend went home talking about how hot she was, and so did Connie Britton and everyone else in the place, right? There’s no other option… right?
