Who is the next Anna Wintour?
The headlines about Anna Wintour today are a bit misleading. She is stepping down as editor-in-chief of American Vogue, yes. But that’s just one of the three titles she holds. She is also chief content officer for Condé Nast and global editorial director for the Vogue brand. So she will still have influence at American Vogue because she oversees all Vogues.
That said, she’s imprinted on American Vogue for 37 years. This, then, is an opportunity for a new editor at American Vogue to, perhaps, introduce a new flavour to the magazine… under Anna’s supervision. It’ll be interesting to see just much creative freedom this person will really have. And, of course, who the candidates are.
Some people are already talking about the possibility of Edward Enninful. Imagine it was Law Roach though? He already has a relationship with the Vogue brand, he’s produced several shoots with Vogue. Law definitely has the eye, but he doesn’t have the experience in publishing like on the management side obviously. So this is probably a speculative longshot but whatever, this is what the streets are doing anyway – speculating, and that’s the game right now with the news about Anna: who will succeed her as the editor of American Vogue and… how cutthroat the competition is. Make it a documentary!

Kayleigh Donaldson on how Pink became a megastar by becoming uncool. It’s a great essay and I wish I had thought of it. (Pajiba)
Jessica at The Fug Girls loves these shoes on Daisy Ridley. I’m on the other side of the spectrum, I hate them. I really hate how the straps are flying out, like twist ties. And I wonder if they’re scratchy, like if you crossed your feet, whether or not they would scratch up your ankles. (Go Fug Yourself)
Holidays are coming up in Canada and the United States. I’m setting aside half a day to read and Autostraddle, just in time, put together a list of trans novels for the summer. (Autostraddle)
Sabrina Carpenter is being Sabrina Carpenter and dropping alternate album covers with snarky captions. I really, really love her wit. (Celebitchy)
I was so nervous watching Faith Kipyegon try to become the first woman in history to break the four minute mile barrier today and so sad for her that she wasn’t able to. But I’m also fascinated by the suit and the bra that was designed for her to help her shave down her time. (NY Times)
