Andrew Garfield and his hair
Now that we’re in October, we’re getting into the thick of awards season. Monday night is the world premiere of Artificial, Luca Guadagnino’s film about Sam Altman and OpenAI.
Thanks to billionaire f-ckery bouncing the film from its original distributor, Jeff Bezos’s Amazon MGM, Artificial is now being released by NEON. Everyone is going to be watching this one extra closely, to determine if it’s even worth all the fuss in the first place. Guadagnino’s last film, After the Hunt, was a big miss. Before that, Queer was good, but it didn’t catch on. Guadagnino is not exactly on a roll, so will Artificial even prove to be worth how sweaty it made Amazon?
For today, though, Artificial star Andrew Garfield is in London doing press with his Jesus hair in tow. Is this hair for a role, or is he just feeling…refreshed? The locks are looking extra lustrous, even under a ballcap.
One thing about Artificial that I only just now clocked, because so much about this film to date has been about the distributor shuffle, is that it co-stars real life couple Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro. They’re going to be doing press together. This is an excellent observation opportunity. I like them as a celebrity couple, but they keep a relatively low profile. We’re about to have some prime Gargaro(?) spotting. Also, plenty of opportunities coming up to enjoy Andrew Garfield’s shampoo commercial hair.
What else happened today…
Okay, yes, please do explain to me why everyone is addicted to The Traitors. There’s like nine versions of the series now. I love Alan Cumming (Sandy Frink forever) and I’m glad he is helming a giant hit, but Traitors seems especially sticky, culturally speaking, even in an overcrowded reality TV landscape. So yes, please explain the psychology behind Traitors. (Popsugar)
The New York City Ballet Fashion Gala was last night. The fashion part was pretty tame. Even Julia Fox opted for a relatively normal suit (though she looks fantastic in it). Sarah Jessica Parker went with a lot of ribbons. Like a LOT of ribbons. So many ribbons. (Go Fug Yourself)
The custody dispute between Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez and their 13-year-old-son, Maceo, has reared its ugly head once again. Martinez was granted a restraining order against Berry, who now only has daytime visitation with her son. Halle’s co-parenting situations have always been super messy, and with Maceo, they’ve fought in the courts before about his learning needs in school. I don’t want to jump to conclusions because this has always been fraught, but kind of yikes. (Celebitchy)
The NHL season has started up and they’re introducing a new “Hot For Hockey” campaign for female fans, in which regular ole hockey news is “presented” in the style of romantic fiction. A bunch of hockey romance writers have turned it down, some have not. Mostly, I just cannot believe how condescending this campaign is. Like women can’t be interested in hockey or hockey news unless it’s fluffed up like RPF fanfiction.
I legit cannot wait for Heated Rivalry season two, because the league is the villain and I hope that launches some conversations about how much the NHL sucks (see also: the Edmonton Oilers signing Alex Formenton, a former junior national player accused of sexual assault). I gave up on football a long time ago because it’s clear women are not a priority for the league, either as fans or as partners of players. The NHL is very much the same. The league. Is. The. Villain. (Pajiba)
