MBJ in NYC

Michael B Jordan was in New York City this weekend, right on schedule. Last week Miami Vice ’85 was in production in New Jersey, at a strip mall set up to look like Miami in the 80s. It was always expected that filming would continue in NYC this week and here’s MBJ in Brooklyn with Karl-Anthony Towns.

Some people are saying that KAT is doing a cameo in the movie, others are saying it’s a commercial shoot. We can sort that out later, the point is MBJ and Karl-Anthony Towns are definitely working on the film in New York, which further confirms that this is an origin story about the Crockett and Tubbs partnership – and when there’s an origin story, there’s always room for a sequel. Obviously getting ahead of ourselves here since the movie won’t be in theatres for a year and a half but if it makes the money they’re expecting it to make, to kick off summer blockbuster season in 2028, let’s not pretend the studio won’t want more.

In other MBJ news, he’s one of the executive producers, alongside Jay-Z (credited as Shawn Carter), on the new Prime Video scripted series about Muhammad Ali called The Greatest. Esquire ran an in-depth piece on the project, starring Jalen Best in the lead role, last week ahead of the November 4 streaming date and a trailer was also released.

Wonder if there’s time carved out in the Miami Vice ’85 production schedule for MBJ to show up at the premiere. Any publicist would want him there for promotion.

Speaking of the Knicks though, since we were just talking about Karl-Anthony Towns, they are everywhere. Jalen Brunson hosted the season premiere of Saturday Night Live, KAT is maybe making movies, and OG Anunoby is helping Ben Stiller promote Focker-in-Law. Ben was as ubiquitous as Timmy Chalamet and Mariska Hargitay during the Knicks’ championship run, and he’s working on a Knicks documentary. So this, really, is keeping it in the family. Plus big love for Annie Hathaway.
