In my post yesterday about the Sydney Sweeney and Scooter Braun rumours, I mentioned that even though it was only-accurate-once-a-year Star Magazine that broke the story, other more reliable outlets had not yet added to the report, even though for sure they had to have been chasing the story. Then a few hours later, they all lined up to say the same thing.

PEOPLE and TMZ both claim exclusives even though their sources are telling them the same thing with the same word: “casual”.

“Knee deep in the passenger seat, and you're eating me out
Is it casual now?”

Is this their theme song? Because that was the word blaring in neon, clearly the message they’re trying to land: Sydney and Scooter are CASUAL…and the “just” before “casual” is silent, although I’m sure we all hear it.

Who, though, is sending out this press release? Is it coming from her camp or his?

Over at Page Six, their sources are saying that it was Scooter who became “obsessed” with Sydney after meeting her at the Bezos wedding and he’s been “pursuing” her ever since. By leaking to everyone that they’re “casual” right before she starts promotion for the film (Christy) that she’ll be campaigning for her first Oscar nomination?

On that note, the first paragraph in Matthew Belloni’s latest “What I’m Hearing” newsletter for Puck is juicy

“Welcome back to What I’m Hearing+, hope everyone was able to enjoy the nice weekend despite the news that happened to break revealing Sydney Sweeney is “casually” dating notorious attention whore Scooter Braun. Note to Jen Millar and Scott Melrose at Paradigm: Shut this down immediately, it only ends badly for your top client.”

From Matthew Belloni's Puck newsletter

Matthew straight up calls Scooter a “notorious attention whore” after emphasizing the word “happened”, implying that this is coming from Scooter. That tracks with what I wrote yesterday about these rumours fluffing Scooter’s ego that he could even possibly be romantically connected to Sydney.

But it’s the piece of advice from Matthew to Sydney’s agent and manager, Jen Millar and Scott Melrose, that is the most revealing, advising them to “shut this down immediately” because of the risk of it “end[ing] badly” for their top client.

Like I said, Sydney will be in Toronto in two days for the Christy world premiere, coming off the bad press from American Eagle just a couple of weeks ago, when the focus really should be on what TIFF calls her “career-best” performance. Making headlines again with one of the most despised people in the industry probably isn’t the move. And when Matthew Belloni is talking about it, disparagingly, in a newsletter that’s read by decision-makers and power players in Hollywood (as confirmed in The Studio), I can’t imagine this was the kind of publicity her team was hoping for to kick off her campaign.
