We are 10+ years into the Pedro Pascal internet boyfriend agenda, and it occurs to me that for all the online thirst he generates, we don’t spend a lot of time speculating about Pedro’s love life. He’s doing internet boyfriend on hard mode, keeping his personal life largely out of headlines, allowing the internet boyfriend fantasy to remain intact. But over the weekend Pedro was seen leaving Sunset Tower Hotel after a “three-hour dinner” with Jennifer Aniston, prompting speculation that they’re dating. Gossip genie, activate?
I certainly buy Pedro and Jen dealing with each other more than I do Jennifer Aniston having an affair with Barack Obama. That’s the stupidest rumor in recent memory (and it’s apparently based on someone misunderstanding satire). There is no gossip hygiene when people will say whatever sh-t will get clicks with barely a careless “could be untrue!” disclaimer tossed out to cover their ass. But we have proof of Pedro and Jen socializing. Are you into it, yay or nay? I’m kind of into it, if for no other reason than it’s refreshing to see a guy date a woman over fifty (Pedro is 49, Jen is 56).
One reason we don’t talk about Pedro’s love life much is probably how damn busy he is—the man broke out in Game of Thrones season four and has not slowed down since. This year alone he has Celine Song’s Materialists, the new new Fantastic Four, and the second season of The Last Of Us, which I bet will be really good but I’ve already been there with the game and I’m sorry, I can’t go there again. He also stars in Spike Jonze’s new commercial for Air Pods:
Spike Jonze commercials remain undefeated (see also: “Ikea Lamp”). Although this Air Pods ad is more a spiritual successor to Jonze’s music video work, like the Fatboy Slim “Weapon of Choice” video which famously features a dancing Christopher Walken.
Jennifer Aniston, meanwhile, has the fourth season of The Morning Show due later this year. She, however, made her fortune already and does not have to work like a fiend. Though someone pointed out that Michelle Monaghan is doing a Jen Aniston homage on The White Lotus with her TV star character, Jaclyn, and now that is all I can see. It’s the hair, right? It’s totally the hair.
