Brie Larson black clogs

Clogs… a divisive shoe, right? I find people are either super into them or absolutely against them. Last year the Birkenstock clog dominated the feed but the Dansko clog, seen here in Brie’s photo album (flip to the 4th photo), is for the person committed to clog life.

It’s not about chasing the Vogue trend or looking like an Olsen, these clogs are not temporary. The most stylistically adventurous and interesting person I know often wears her scuffed green pair with the good stuff (Alaïa, Issey Miyake pleated pants, Rachel Comey jeans) so I think it has trained my brain to associate these clogs with a higher style being. It’s a shoe I can look at and appreciate but know will never be part of my collection. It’s a mature shoe. I feel like a toddler when I’m wearing my Sambas next to a person in these clogs. If you want to snag yourself a Dansko, get it directly from their website or you can often find a bunch of sizes/colours at stores that sell scrubs. (Thanks Cathy!)

Minka Kelly’s old town road

What makes a horse girl? Depends on what corner of the internet you are in but my understanding is that a horse girl is shy and a little dreamy, with long hair and a diary. It’s a little silly and probably not accurate (equestrians seem pretty tough!) but it has stuck as a term. Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid have been counted as horse girls, as has Mary-Kate Olsen (all of them are expert riders).

I don’t know if Minka Kelly is a horse girl but she’s on a horse in a very cute sweater. It’s a plaid half-zip from The Great (which is the sweater of choice for celebs right now) and it’s sold out. But this led me to peruse The Great’s sale section and there are some really cute pullovers on sale for the end of the season – I have my eye on The Countryside Pullover and The Outlander Pullover. I’ve never ridden a horse but I want to look like I have. (Thanks Sisi!)

Eva Mendes’s knit suit

This one will be quick because Eva Mendes did us the favour of tagging the stylist and the designer (and also, she made the jewellery. New line coming?). When I saw the closeup I was like, OK the top is cute but when I saw the entire outfit, knit, I loved it on her. Very much suits her slightly 70s vibe, right? It’s by Calle Del Mar. You know what this would look great with? Dansko clogs. (Thanks James!)

Literal fancy pants

OK I’m closing today not with a recommendation but a call out: who has read The Cut piece on the $860 stretchy pants? They are by High Sport and the story by Hilary Reid is great because it gets into the “how” of it – how did this particular style become the “it” pant of New York? There are also important details on the fabric and fit (I was most interested in hearing from someone who was not a size 0 comment on the sizing). It’s an interesting read because is it really about fit and quality for the brand devotees or does the Upper East Side empress have no pants on?
