As Seen on Social Media: Halle Berry’s red dress, the TV girls are dressing
Halle Berry: Mothering for a Mother-of-the-Bride
I got my second mother-of-the-bride request, specifically for Halle Berry’s red gown. I was asked if it was appropriate and yes I think it is. It’s formal and hot-as-hell and those things are not mutually exclusive. Mother-of-the-brides (or grooms) do not need to dress like teapots or a senior member of the royal family. Have some fun, flash some leg!
I haven’t been a bride in a long time but I am hearing that beyond bridesmaid dresses, couples are choosing whole schemes for their guests and providing acceptable palettes for guest gowns (because let’s be real, the dress code only applies to gowns). Engaged couples, are we OK? I know weddings are expensive and stressful and everything is about the aesthetic but asking a large group of people to match like a paint swatch seems a bit bananas to me. And don’t shoot the messenger (me) because everyone thinks this and just doesn’t want to make you mad but if you are requesting everyone dress in champagne or peach or marigold, there IS a separate group chat about it.
But back to the dress: it is Magda Butrym and you can find the exact one here and here.
Everybody Wants These Clothes (Netflix edition)
I wrote about Nobody Wants This yesterday and what I failed to mention is how great the wardrobe is. The people dress like actual people and not like they are on set and never step outside. Other shows like this include Shrinking and Abbot Elementary – no one looks like they were styled by a professional (even though they obviously were).
I got a bunch of requests for Nobody Wants This, most notably the oversized denim jacket worn by Justine Lupe and I’m pretty it’s this one by Anine Bing. H&M makes a similar one. (flip to slide 4 below)
As for the rest of the wardrobe, there are two sites totally dedicated to finding TV clothes: Shop Your TV and Worn on TV. Both are a treasure trove of specific finds and I wonder if they are affiliated? Or are they rivals!
Agatha’s All Asymmetrical
The hardest find of the week comes via Agatha All Along (which I haven’t watched yet because I didn’t watch Wandavision and now I’m behind). It is for the asymmetrical Loewe shirt and I’m assuming it is this one. GASP what a great shirt, I love it. And the issue with such a great shirt is that the more affordable retailers haven’t caught up to this style yet, or won’t take a chance on it because a regular button-down (or is it button-up? I never know) might be more popular with a wider audience. But I’ve been asked for a dupe and here’s what I got: An asymmetrical shirt from Zara – look at the untucked photos, it better shows off the sides and back hem. This poplin shirt from Frame is still pricey (but not Loewe pricey) and it is two-tone, which accentuates the asymmetrical style. For the closest colour palette, it’s this pick by Nobody’s Child but if the flow of the Loewe sleeves is what you are after, then it is Zara again. A boxy stripe that hits at the waist would work too but there are not a lot of options this year – what happened to boxy stripes? They used to a staple.
