Katy: are the outfits a hit?

There’s been a lot of talk about Katy Perry’s place in the pop music world and despite the Woman’s World flop, she’s not giving up on the album. She is showing up seemingly everywhere and while Katy is not my go-to red carpet person, I can appreciate that she puts a ton of effort in, she has fun, she isn’t coasting on gowns. She mixes it up a lot, she wears things are kind of whacky sometimes and I like that.

I received an email asking for the bodysuit portion of this look and off I went, trying to find just the right heather gray mock neck suit but nothing quite fit. And the reason is – this is a one piece. It’s a dress! I thought it was a two-piece, a bodysuit with a lace skirt. Designer Burc Akyol posted about it. I think it’s just right for this kind of promo (but the shoe choice would not be mine).

As for the bodysuit, there are plenty of short sleeve bodysuits out there – Wolford is the obvious choice, but Aritzia has some good options and Skims. Hate to report that I own a Skims piece and am considering another. The quality is there, I like the material and the sizing works for me. I currently have the square neck bodysuit in my cart and I’m not proud of it.

What to work out in?

I received a question from a reader asking about workout clothes, which is not my area of expertise at all. I hate working out and my wardrobe reflects that. But I do follow someone who ALWAYS, no exaggeration, dresses well. That person is Tracee Ellis Ross. She’s very fit and often posts her sessions on Instagram. Like look at this unitard! With the back cutout! It’s the Wear One’s At Varsity Unitard. She also wears a lot of Carbon38 and as she recently posted in her stories, Old Navy, which is not surprising as she’s done work with the brand. The sneakers are Asics.

The other celeb whose workout wear really shines, at least for me, is JLo. She puts effort into going into the gym and has said she will even wear a little bronzer to look cute. She’s not a half measure person. Her go-to is Nyama Sol – they even have an As Seen on JLo section on their website. Did you know that Tracy Anderson, who has tons of famous clients, said the only person she will personally train is JLo, because JLo is so dedicated to every minute of it? The hustle can’t be denied.

Hannah Berner – a post-reality TV star

Hannah Berner is not a household name but she’s so interesting because she has an extremely successful podcast (Giggly Squad) and a prime interviewing gig with Betches and a stand-up with a special on Netflix, which is obviously huge. That’s a pretty robust career, but I know her from Summer House. She was… not great in her last season and really disliked by the audience. But instead of languishing in reality TV purgatory, she’s done a really, really good job of leaving Summer House behind. Her podcast is with a current Summer House cast member but it is not a main topic. She’s not under the Bravo umbrella anymore and it is such a smart strategy. So many reality stars try to cling to it and it's such a hindrance to their public persona. She was let go from Summer House in her late 20s – that must have sucked, but there is life after Bravo/The Bachelor/Love Island that doesn’t involve teeth whitening strips and just appearing on other reality stars’ podcasts for the next 10 years.

Lea Michele goes red

Lea Michele loves a billowing floral maternity dress but this is a nice switch-up – it’s red tank dress from Michael Kors. I’ll be honest – I gave up looking for this because the Michael Kors brand is so diluted, I don’t even know where to start. There’s the mall brand, the outlet brand, and then the celebrity brand (which doesn’t seem tied to the outlet or mall), making for a confusing shopping experience. And it’s not just Lea’s dress. Blake Lively wore a Michael Kors Fall 2024 dress – how one can purchase this exact dress remains a mystery, at least to me.
