As Seen On Social Media: Nicole Richie’s strapless top, Violet Affleck’s pasta pants
Nicole Richie and Hilary Duff’s Night Out
I’ve written about Nicole Richie’s style a few times because it’s much more thoughtful than people give her credit for. Part of that is because, even with a clothing line, Nicole doesn’t aim to influence.
She has a pretty consistent boho-adjacent style without veering into costume territory. She’s consistently great and I can’t wait to see what she does for the press run of the The Simple Life’s reboot. But, it also helps that she’s rich. That isn’t to say that all rich people have good taste (not even close!) but it does help with access. For example, this strapless ribbed top is by Khaite – it’s US$858). Not exactly accessible and because of the fit, not easily duplicated. But it is the perfect going out top – women over 35 will get it.
JLo and Violet stepping out
Lainey wrote about JLo’s outing with Violet Affleck and her friend Cassidey Fralin, noting that whatever is going on with Bennifer isn’t reflected in the relationship with the kids. I am fielding two separate questions from these photos: Jennifer’s flowy white top (which I will get to in a second) and Violet’s patterned pants. They are sooooo cute and I am admittedly partial to food print on clothing, like French fry socks, and I just bought a t-shirt with sardine cans on it (from Never Fully Dressed). Violet’s jeans are from Lisa Says Gah’s Buon Appetito line and the Robyn jeans are available in size 0-30. Love all that. And if you love the print but are unsure of pants (short girls get it), there are tote bags and t-shirts and a bunch of super cute stuff, like this green hat with tomatoes on the vine. I know how Lainey feels about green hats which is why it’s lingering in my cart. But! There’s also a blue cap with an ice cream cone.
As for JLo, you would not believe who helped me find her flowy white top. It’s our very own style assistant, Jacek! He sent me the press release from Ciao Lucia – she’s in the Paloma top and sorry, its sold out. This Levi’s Cici tank top has a similar essence (and would work in humid days).
It’s Pr*me Day
I got an interesting question asking two things: 1. What I’ve bought lately (which I will get to in a minute) and 2. If I am buying anything from the big sale. Shopping is a weird beast for me because I have to be IN THE MOOD. Right now, I want for nothing! I am above rampant consumerism! I am no longer a minion in the capitalist cog! This week anyway. I could be on a tear next week. Maybe it aligns with my cycle? I should track it. The downside to this kind of emotional shopping is that when I actually need to buy something (like for an occasion) is inconvenient because when I am turned off from shopping, I’m all the way off.
Right now, even when there are great sales at stores I frequently shop at, I don’t buy anything I don’t absolutely need to have and I have a pretty basic test: I add it to my cart and if in the next 2-3 hours I don’t rush back to check on it, the feeling of want usually passes.
As for Lauren Sanchez’s fiancé’s big sale bonanza, I bought batteries and a food processor. I also, after banging on about how I am not shopping right now, bought a set of men’s Ralph Lauren boxers to wear as shorts when I hit an amusement park this summer. I never wear shorts, like literally never, so it’s an experiment.
