Dear Gossips,

If there was one celebrity who eclipsed the race this weekend, it was Beyoncé. She pulled up to the paddock in Las Vegas with Jay-Z, in a Louis Vuitton jumpsuit, to hang out with Lewis Hamilton, and all hell broke loose on social media.

The best, for me at least, was seeing the brief glimpses of Beyoncé in the car with Lewis during the hot lap. She’s excited, giddily clapping her hands. But she’s also probably terrified… because it is terrifying going at those speeds, and not even the speeds that they would hit when they’re actually competing.

I have never been on a hot lap in an F1 car but I’ve done it in an IndyCar, which isn’t even as fast, a few years ago, on a shoot for ETALK. I was already a mess arriving at the paddock that day, and it got worse when they strapped me in. It was so claustrophobic and also, in an IndyCar the guest seat is behind the driver, which made it even scarier because I felt, like, less in control? We were supposed to do two laps, I was already crying in terror halfway through the first lap and I ended being that girl, so pathetic and paralysed by fear that I made the driver stop before the second lap and got the f-ck out of there. It was so traumatising I’ve blocked out who the actual driver was and almost everything about the race but it’s on tape somewhere in the show archives if ever our producers want to embarrass me.

Even Beyoncé said she was sweating through the experience with Lewis, as safe as that would be, considering he’s the greatest of all time. And sweating in all that tight leather, I honestly don’t know how she does it. Maybe it’s not as scary when you’re sitting up front in an F1 car. Curiously, though, the video I just posted has been deleted from the F1 TikTok account where it originally appeared. Because they didn’t have Beyoncé’s signoff?

Other videos of the Carters are still up on the F1 socials, like this one where Jay admits he still hasn’t recovered, LOL.

Lewis also took Travis Scott and billionaire Michael Rubin out for a spin. Is it just me or does Lewis not seem as into it here as he was with B and J?

To mark the occasion, Beyoncé updated her website, and included a throwback shot from when she was at the Singapore Grand Prix in 2009. Look at baby Lewis!

In 2009 Lewis and Nicole Scherzinger were still together, and this remains his most significant romantic relationship.

He’s probably not thinking about dating right now. Lewis would be the first to say that this season, his first with Ferrari, has been a flop, with no podiums. And he’s never been one to downplay his frustrations and disappointments (he called this season a “nightmare” the other day), which is why the big headlines right now are related to what he said about next year, which is that he’s not looking forward to it, resulting in speculation not just about his future but about the car, and whether or not he already knows it’s not competitive. How much longer will Lewis be out there?

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
