It’s been a quiet year for Bradley Cooper, right? We’ve talked about him here and there in relation to Gigi Hadid and maybe adjacently Taylor Swift but not that often. He gets papped regularly but there’s not much of a story to go with the photos. There’s been no project to promote, nothing to market. And there won’t be for a while, although production is starting on his third directorial feature in February.
Is This Thing On? will star Will Arnett and Emily Blunt, and Bradley has a role too. Story details are starting to emerge – here’s the synopsis:
“After many years together, Alex and Tess have reached an amicable end to their marriage, thus beginning the awkward stage of figuring out how to live separately while raising two boys and maintaining their friendships. Alex discovers a new hobby which allows him to reflect on his identity and the dynamics of his relationship with Tess.”
Will co-wrote the script, and given what we know of his life – he and and Amy Poehler are amicably divorced and co-parent two children – I would imagine this is loosely based on his experiences. Not clear yet if Will is in the lead role or if it’s Bradley but the title “Is This Thing On?” also suggests podcasting and, between them, Will of course is the podcaster.
This is a great pivot for Bradley. From A Star is Born to Maestro and now a family/relationship comedy… it’s a good stretch of his range. And he’s good at comedy! We just don’t see it onscreen as much anymore, but I will always, always cape for his performance in Wedding Crashers! Sack Lodge is a legend!
Speaking of A Star is Born though…
Here he is at JFK yesterday and it looks like the Jackson Maine hair is back. Someone check on Hunter Harris?
