The Bridgerton spin-off focused on a young Queen Charlotte has found its lead, as India Amarteifio is set to play the queen before she was queen, when she was a princess betrothed to a man she’d never met. The series is written by Shonda Rhimes, who also serves as showrunner, and will focus on how Charlotte’s marriage to King George III changed England into the post-racial society we see depicted in Bridgerton. Michelle Fairley, aka Catelyn Stark, is playing Princess Augusta, mother of King George, and Corey Mylchreest is playing the young George.

Bridgerton stars Golda Rosheuvel, Ruth Gemmell, and Adjoa Andoh are returning as their characters Queen Charlotte, Violet Bridgerton, and Lady Danbury, respectively, so I assume this show, billed as a limited series, will have a flashback format. Though the show centers on Queen Charlotte, I am most interested to see the young Danburys. The young Lady Danbury will be played by Arsema Thomas, and the young Lady D is described as being “under the thumb of a much older husband”—Lord Danbury, deceased by the time of Bridgerton, will be played by Cyril Nri. Lady D’s monologue to Kate about living life is very intriguing and sets up a lot of possibilities, and I cannot WAIT to see how Lady D goes from young bride to the dragon of society we know in Bridgerton. Queen Charlotte’s story is always going to be at least a little bit pinned to history, but Lady D’s story is limitless.
