Heads up – there’s a book review on the way to make up for the chicken fried inundation.

I’m sorry… it’s a lot of Britney. But the girl is busy and she’s also releasing a new album. Much to report.

Fox News is claiming that this is her official cover for Blackout. As you’ve probably heard, Blackout will be released 2 weeks earlier than officially anticipated, supposedly to avoid further leaks. Many cynics however suspect it has to do with the fact that her label, Jive, doesn’t want her going head to head with other artists. Not that that theory doesn’t have merit but when you consider Britney’s success on iTunes, and the plain old rubbernecking curiosity factor, it is indisputable that Britney can still sell.

Going by critical feedback, these new songs just might cash in. Fox’s Roger Friedman wrote that “the album sounds like a hit” and specifically made mention of the ballads, calling them – no joke – “mesmerising”.

They’re the last two tracks…called “Love Is a State of Grace” and “Let Go.” If it’s really Spears, unadorned, she’s going to change a lot of minds about her ability to put over a real song. She might even have a recording career in her future. Now, that would be a shock.

Indeed.
