During Paris Fashion Week this past summer, at the Celine show in July, Anna Wintour made a point of asking V (aka Kim Taehyung, aka Tae), within earshot of everyone, to attend Vogue World Hollywood, knowing the impact of an appearance by any member of BTS on any event they attend.

 

For Media Impact Value, few fanbases are as powerful as BTS’s ARMY. 

Tae did Anna a solid last night as he did indeed show up at Vogue World Hollywood and, in the process, repped his culture and a movie that has been one of this year’s pop culture phenomena: Kpop Demon Hunters. Tae arrived in monochrome grey – a suit under an overcoat. And it’s the accessories that really elevate this look:

V’s wide-brim hat here can also be read as a gat, a Korean traditional men’s hat popularised in the Joseon period and also recognisable in the costuming of the Saja Boys of Kpop Demon Hunters when they’re in their demon form. 

 

This isn’t the only nod to Korean style – you’ll also note that the coat has been loose-belted which, in itself, is just chic AF, but Tae chose to do it with norigae, commonly worn with hanbok. It’s such a modern and stylish way to pay tribute to the fashion of his people. 

During the show, V was seated between Cynthia Erivo and Dakota Johnson. Anna also personally greeted him. Personally and tactilely because look at the ice queen with the affectionate hand-hold. 

 

It’ll be interesting to see how Anna tries to extend this relationship. No members of BTS have ever been to the Met Gala. And this, of course, has to be a goal for her. We’re getting closer and closer to BTS’s comeback. The new album has been promised for spring 2026, so probably March-ish. And there will also be a tour so the band may not be able to fit it into the schedule. Unless, of course, they can. And if they want to. A classic case of Anna and the Met Gala needing them more than they need the event. This makes me even more curious about the Met Gala 2026 theme, as yet unannounced. Any time now, presumably.
