It’s the final award season push of 2024 for the next three weeks as we get closer to the holidays when Hollywood temporarily shuts down before coming back to business for the Golden Globes on January 5. This means premieres and parties almost every single night and it also means that we’ll be seeing which celebrities show up for their friends, hosting screenings and Q&As and/or making appearances in support of their people.

For Danielle Deadwyler, there were two stops on her schedule last night: the premiere of The Piano Lesson, for which she is contention for a Best Supporting Actress nomination and also the ELLE Women in Hollywood party where she was honoured as one of the performers of the year. It was John David Washington, her co-star in the film, who supported her at ELLE. She looks amazing in both looks, but I’m partial to the strapless black dress with the silver embellishment. But have we given enough respect to how Wayman + Micah styled her for the Governors Awards on Sunday?! This Armani on her!

Kathleen wrote a great piece about Danielle Deadwyler that I linked to yesterday arguing that she meant no “disrespect to the GOAT Viola Davis but the best female character [August] Wilson ever wrote is Berniece and Deadwyler rises to the challenge of the material”. Viola won her Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance in the film adaptation of Wilson’s Fences in 2017. Will Danielle be next? Variety has her in their most updated list of the projected five.

Zoe Saldana is also on that list, and she was at the ELLE event with Emilia Pérez co-stars Karla Sofia Gascon and Selena Gomez with an assist from Cameron Diaz. Cam and Zoe have been close forever so we know how Cam will be voting on her Oscar ballot.

In the Best Supporting Actress category, Variety currently has Saoirse Ronan (Blitz) in the top spot for a nomination. Saoirse had her own heavyweight supporting her last night: Carey Mulligan. They too have been friends for a long time. And Carey looking insane in this sparkling black jumpsuit.

Then there’s Demi Moore, in contention, but so far not among the five frontrunners, for a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her work in The Substance. She was stunning in Ralph Lauren at the ELLE event.

But the bigger story is who came to campaign for her: a Now and Then reunion! Rosie O’Donnell, Rita Wilson, and Melanie Griffith were there for Demi:

And finally, Kate Winslet wasn’t at the ELLE party but she’s pushing hard for consideration for her work in Lee, which she also produced, and Leonardo DiCaprio co-hosted and …he even spoke as he introduced her at the screening.

It’s the season for Hollywood friendships, anything that can get an advantage in a competitive race.
