We can add another woman to The Jam List: Garcelle Beauvais. Part of the Housewife ecosystem is a lot of pettiness and jealousy and they keep track of things like which celebrities follow which Housewives.
This is major bragging rights.
How has Rihanna never been on WWHL? She needs a WEEK.
Gucci is in sharp decline, with sales falling so much that it has significantly affected Kering’s bottom line. There’s a multitude of reasons, including an economic slowdown in China, the exit of popular creative director Alessandro Michele, and the gravitation to “quiet luxury.” Gucci is luxury but it is not quiet. And while yes, the monogram has air of cheugyness about it, that hasn’t affected the sales of obnoxious Louis Vuitton or Chanel bags. But Gucci has always teetered on the brink of bad taste.
To quote The Secret History, 'Well, it's so expensive, but it's so ugly too, isn't it? I think they make it ugly on purpose. And yet people buy it out of sheer perversity.' Right now, Gucci’s style of perversity is not popular. But fashion is cyclical and it will rise again. The question is, who will take it into its next era?
Vanessa Lachey shared her shock at NCIS: Hawai’i’s cancellation and it does seem odd that it was so celebrated this month for hitting 1000 episodes. And these show run forever and are a cornerstone of CBS. Seeing how surprised Vanessa is, it does not seem like there was any indication it was at risk.
I’m kind of digging Katy Perry’s custodian-chic belt. Not my shoe choice but the top makes up for it.
A very interesting op-ed from playwright and author Jen Silverman has taken over my Instagram feed: Art Isn’t Supposed to Make You Comfortable. I won’t summarize too much but I found the ideas in it – that art is increasingly being treated as a moral yardstick of righteous viewers – really interesting. And a big reason for the increase in unchallenging work is that audiences are seeking comfort in what they read and watch. Art should sometimes be uncomfortable, even ugly.
Mandy Moore freshened up her bob and Demi Lovato went short as well. I feel like this is a very popular haircut for spring and looks great on everyone. And also, for many famous women who have to go through a lot of heat treatments and use extensions or wigs for shoots, it must feel so light and breezy.
Doja Cat makes a harsh, if fair, point here. Her music and show is not for young audiences so if you do bring a child to her show, you have been warned. And it sounds like she doesn’t want to see kids in the audience. Again, that is her prerogative. But why doesn’t her team handle it and request the show be 18+? Is that allowed or are there rules for venues?
