Celebrity Social Media Round-Up for August 16, 2024 including Katy Perry's album flop isn't getting her, it’s the perception that she's out of touch

I read The Squawk this morning and Sarah answered a question about Katy Perry: If you were advising Katy Perry what to do next, what would you say? It’s a great question because Katy has failed, but her team has also failed her. To be clear, failure is OK. Not every album can be a hit, not every video can go viral. There are limits to the attention economy.

It’s not the flop that’s getting her, it’s the perception that she is out of touch. That is a lot harder to come back from. And it’s quite a juxtaposition from her bank account: she had one of the biggest music deals of 2023, selling her catalogue for over $200 million, And her shoe line, Katy Perry Collections, is growing with a new HSN deal this year. Katy’s bank account is not flopping. The only creative work she needs to be doing right now is work that she really, really feels connected to. She has “passion project” money. And if that passion project is Woman’s World, if that is truly what she wants to say, then no team can help her.

Kaley Cuoco is engaged and I thought she was already engaged, so this isn’t news to me but I do want to talk about her possible dress. She works very closely with stylist Brad Goreski and this is her third wedding, meaning she’s got two dresses out of her system. So this time, if she didn’t like her first dress or the hair at her second wedding or whatever, it’s a total do-over. That would be an advantage of multiple marriages because wedding dress regret is real.

I love, love, love this aesthetic for Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga. You know what’s interesting about Bruno Mars? He’s a massive pop star, he’s won Grammys, he’s performed with Beyonce at the Super Bowl – all of the things. And I don’t know one single thing about him. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a pap shot of him.

His music is everywhere but he is not.

Harry Styles is also a big pop boy but we know more about him. Apparently, he and Taylor Russell have split and he has been spotted getting burgers with Oliva Dean (which could mean nothing at all, friends do eat together). But it kind of strikes me that if it is true, he’s a pretty consistent dater. All of the gossip about him revolves around his dating life.

August 16, two Halloween posts in the timeline. What is going to be the costume this year? I suspect a lot of TNT and Chappell Roan.

Remember that bonkers story about Graceland being auctioned off? Well fraud charges have been laid and it’s still so crazy to me. How did someone think they could steal Graceland, of all places? That’s a pretty big swing to take. That’s Ocean’s 11 style stealing. Maybe Riley Keough will make a movie out of it.
