Serena Williams is living her best life in Paris despite the recent row over getting a table at the Paris Peninsula rooftop restaurant. 

Allegedly, she was turned away because she was “unrecognizable”. Restaurant staff maintain the place was booked, and while I am generally in the “don’t accommodate celebrities just because they’re famous” camp, it’s a bit disingenuous to pretend there could not possibly be any other mitigating factors, especially after what other Black women have experienced this summer in France, just trying to move around.  

No one is having more fun than Snoop Dogg at the Olympics, but the cognitive dissonance of having him attend the dressage grand prix freestyle final while the horse world is raging with controversy from the suspension of British dressage rider Charlotte Dujardin after a video of her whipping a horse in training surfaced, never mind numerous examples of horses with blue tongues and show jumpers with gaping mouths, it’s been a rather rough Olympics in re: horse welfare in equestrian sports.

Eventing was slightly less problematic—at least no horses were euthanized this time, unlike at Tokyo—but given the scrutiny on equestrian sports, the judging and oversight was incredibly lax. Sending Snoop to the dressage final in his own dressage outfit felt like a cover for the sport as the future of equestrians at the Olympics is seriously in doubt. Like, oh Snoop loves us, we’re not going anywhere. Girl. Don’t count on it. Much less problematic: Snoop hanging with Noah Lyles’ mom in the stands.

David Lynch has been diagnosed with emphysema, and though he is currently not working and thinks he would have to direct remotely if he did work again, he is NOT retired. A sliver of good news.

There’s a new teaser for Wicked. I remain preemptively exhausted by this movie’s promotion, but casting Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard is pretty on point. It’s still weird how they just won’t show anyone singing and dancing, though. Does anyone not know this is a musical? Who are we tricking with this?
