Will Francis Ford Coppola attend the Razzies? I don’t know but I like his sentiment: putting it on the line to create art (and employ hundreds of people in the process) is a hell of a lot more interesting as a process than an algorithm and a green screen.
Legendary filmmakers sometimes misfire but you can’t deny the passion and the risk.
Fyre Festival is happening again. What is the Venn diagram between people who will buy tickets to this and the people who bought a Hauk Tuah meme coin?
Justin Timberlake had his second cancellation in Columbus, this one very last minute, for the flu. It sucks as a ticket holder because concerts require planning but I also understand that he probably tried to battle through it and then couldn’t. The flu is nasty this year, so are respiratory illnesses. It feels like every household has at least one sick person at all times this winter.
Maybe the pandemic killed the idea that battling through an illness to work is virtuous once and for all.
Oh this is interesting… Oscar Nuñez will be part of The Office as Oscar Martinez. So far, he’s the original cast member who is tied to it but that looks like it could change. I wonder how they account for chemistry in the cast and writing because you don’t want to include too many OGs or it’s just another lukewarm reboot, but on the flip side this is such a rewatch show and the faces are very familiar, with each character kind of building their own cult following.
Like Bill Burr, Denis Leary isn’t shaking his fist at the clouds over a perceived state of political correctness in comedy. Leary says he’s thrilled to see younger comics coming up and being very good, with specific praise for Ronny Chieng. What he does say is that he feels bad for this generation not because they can’t be “edgy” or because of “wokeness” but because they have to market themselves on social media. I wouldn’t argue with that, Maya Hawke recently pointed out this issue as well for actors.
Looking camp right in the eye: Tilda Swinton introducing Luann de Lesseps at her cabaret show in London. This also calls for a Friday “Cabaret you’re a sicko!” break.
