After months of speculation, Scooter Braun has confirmed he is indeed stepping away from artist management. Some of the artists he managed, like Ariana Grande, are continuing a relationship with Hybe (where he is a CEO and board member).

It was a long, messy transition with lots of rumours but very little on-the-record reporting – it doesn’t seem like any artists are leaking info or want to engage. So he hasn’t been fired but also, he’s not getting a celebratory send-off.

Say what you will, the SKIMS marketing team is really top notch. Always surprising but in a way that makes so much sense. Who is hotter than Nicola Coughlan right now? NO ONE.

Kevin Costner is risking it all (not really) for Horizon: An American Saga and lightly defending his casting of his son. I think Kevin ponied up a lot of the financing for this film and had complete control over it, so he casts who he wants.

One thing that’s interesting is that he’s the first nepo parent I’ve seen who acknowledges that these small roles can make a big difference: “I realize there’s so many young actors that would just kill to be in this movie and I don’t want to take those parts away from them just ‘cause I can place my own children in.” It’s a truthful thing we rarely hear about a business built on scarcity. Every job counts. To Kevin’s son, this is two weeks on set with his dad running the show. To a young person trying to get a break, this would be a huge deal.

One thing nepo parents have in common: they didn’t allow their children to be child actors. Kate Hudson has said she was cast in a movie at 16 and her parents were like cool, no. Wait until you are 18. The ability to say no is where the value of nepotism comes from.

Oh and SJP and Matthew Broderick’s son James Wilkie is getting into the business. Hand him his HBO contract.

OK last word on nepo babies for today (the Father’s Day brought it out I think) but here is where the conversation goes sideways. Caitlin Reilly is a very funny comedian who goes viral a lot (I’ve posted her here) and she wished a cosmic Happy Father’s Day to her dad, John Reilly, who was an actor (who else remembers Passions?!). And there’s a bunch of snarky ‘didn’t realize you are a nepo baby’ comments and um, it’s a tribute post to her late dad. Everybody needs to chill.  We are stretching the term here – there’s a huge difference between a movie star casting his son in a feature length film and a comedian whose dad was on soap opera.

Katy Perry is jumping straight into new music with a single and video dropping in less than a month. This is a pretty long promo run.

Oh and I forgot to post this but Adam Levine is going back to The Voice,  but not until spring 2025. That seems like such a sweet gig and some nice job security- by the time he returns it will be season 27.
