The Bear’s third season is getting pretty lukewarm reviews (like this one in Vulture) and I think it’s part of the issue with dramedy. In the most simplistic terms, comedy characters don’t evolve; they make the same hilarious mistakes week after week (see: Friends). Dramatic characters are mean to shift and learn and change.

A lot of shows that live in the middle end up spinning their wheels and I think that’s part of the issue here.

Hmmm I don’t like this headline one bit. Matthew Rhys said he and Kerri Russell are like “two ships passing in the night” because of work obligations. They met and fell in love and got married while working together and this makes me a little nervous. Or maybe this is his preferred metaphor because he’s really into boats.

TikTok fame can transfer to stardom, but can it sustain it? The D’Amelio reality show has been canceled by Hulu after three seasons and I do wonder if it says anything about larger trends in media. Following someone on social media is a passive activity, it takes zero effort. But finding a show, between all of the streamers, requires slightly more motivation.

Has anyone made the jump from a wholly online audience to a highly rated TV show? The Kardashians don’t really count because the TV show and social media popularity happened at the same time. There’s been seismic shifts in how we use social media and network TV since the premiere of Keeping Up With the Kardashians and so that blueprint doesn’t really work anymore.

Halle Berry has added two kittens to the family, Boots and Coco. Who’s the trouble maker out of the two? My money is on Coco.

It’s Jiminy Glick week on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Lainey has covered Bill Hader and Selena Gomez. Melissa McCarthy and Nick Kroll got in on the action, too. This is a special occasion with a special host and right now, it’s the hottest seat in town. I wonder how they chose their guests. There’s tons of famous fans but there’s only so many slots – who really wanted in and didn’t get a seat? I’d read an oral history on this.

Lainey mentioned this earlier this week but people are wondering about Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian and, if we are strictly going by social media, it doesn’t look great. It’s not just the lack of posts, it’s that he skipped Mother’s Day and she skipped Father’s Day. The vibes are off.
