We’ve been tracking Goop’s fairly quiet financial issues but you know what a pretty significant marker is? The amount Gwyneth Paltrow is working. No, the new Safdie movie isn’t pulling in Marvel salary but the commercials and collaborations. Lainey wrote about her on set the other day (and our collective dream sweater, the Celine!) with Chloe Fineman. GP also hosted a holiday event with Violet Grey, a luxury skin care website owned by Cassandra Grey (widow of producer Brad Grey) and the family behind Hirshleifers, a renowned department store

This year, Cassandra purchased Violet Grey back from Farfetch, with the backing of a venture capital group. There’s a lot of detail in this story with hard numbers, which I find super interesting because these brands present as luxury but, at the time of its sale to Farfetch, Violet Grey was doing $20 million a year in business. Solid, sure, but it had also amassed $33 million in funding to get there. I suspect Goop’s beauty arm is not doing close to that and the Target line will quietly go away in 2025. In the beauty realm, Goop and Violet Grey are not big fish. In 2023, Fenty Beauty sold over $600 million; Rare is estimated at $300 million a year and Rhode is reportedly one of the highest-earning beauty brands (and it doesn’t have a retail space!). Of course, Gwyneth will stress she’s not in competition with any other brand but how do you grow, let alone survive, in an ultra-competitive market without competing?

Brad Goreski’s work with Demi Moore gets a lot of attention (as it should) but don’t sleep on his work with Kaley Cuoco. They are great together – I’m very into this all-brown look. I’m also gearing up for new episodes of Based on a True Story, I was truly delighted by the first season.

Barry Keoghan’s hair might be shocking if you don’t have a teenage boy, but I’m coming across this style lot. Of course, it’s not new (hello, Eminem?) but teenagers have FEELINGS  that have never been FELT and IDEAS that have never in the history of the world ever been thought of by anyone else, so of course teens today think they invented bleached hair.

I’m waiting for the TikTok video of how Barry copied them.

Speaking of TikTok, Leonardo DiCaprio is making the rounds for seemingly ignoring hotel staff trying to sing a traditional farewell to him. Now I’m very torn on this because I don’t want anyone singing to me in a lobby. And Leo is not George Clooney, he isn’t smooth and amiable. Did he know they were singing to him? Because if not, he might have just been caught off guard. I don’t see his team pre-arranging this. But if it’s a tradition of the hotel, then why should they change it for one guest? See, I’m torn. His girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti was on the trip and posted a selfie showing, gasp, a bit of his arm. I can’t remember the last time he got that close to posting with a girlfriend on Instagram.
