We’ve been so focused on Zoe Kravitz and Channing Tatum going Insta-official that I completely ignored Rene Zellweger and Ant Anstead’s very affectionate photo. She looks SO happy right now. She’s really glowing.
Just last week, Jessica Alba covered PEOPLE Magazine with the headline: “Love, Family, and a Billion-dollar Empire.” It’s a typical celebrity success story (and headlines love to tout “billion dollar” celebrities, though rarely is it disclosed that a huge part of the brand valuation comes down to a specific celebrity’s marketing value, which can grossly inflate the number). This week, TMZ broke a story that The Honest Co. shareholders are suing for fraud, alleging that the sales numbers spiked due to Covid stockpiling, which then inflated the value of the company and stock price (which has fallen over 40% since the company went public). So, was the PEOPLE story in anticipation of the lawsuit? Or is the timing a coincidence?
Miley Cyrus and Lil Nas X are an underrated celebrity friendship. (Remember, he’s known the Cyrus family a long time because Billy Ray was on Old Town Road.) Usually I find “celebrity x interviews celebrity y” a boring format, but these two would be interesting.
This story about Justin and Hailey Bieber at the Met Gala is a perfect example of the Streisand effect, which is when a celebrity draws attention to a story they don’t want people to talk about. Hailey’s cousin Ireland commented on fans chanting something about Selena Gomez, which I hadn’t heard about until Ireland commented about it. It gave outlets a reason to report on it. (To be clear, these fans need to seriously get a life. I’m sure Selena would not want her name anywhere near this kind of cringe.)
Holy sh-t, it’s a full Succession trailer. I have a lot of thoughts but no predictions – the family is at war, this family will always be at war because war is all they know. It’s the way they love each other and hate each other. As I’ve said before, this is how we know Logan’s children turned out exactly as he’d hoped because they are ready to kill him to get his approval.
John Mayer got a LolaVie package (which is going out to friends and influencers) but I do have something more to report on this. A gem of a reader called Sarah is sending me the product from the US because we can’t order it in Canada (again, rude!) and she received the shipment from LolaVie - the packaging is very no-frills. There’s nothing in the box except a bottle. Now you know if you shop from a bougie website they send products wrapped in tissue or with a note about the brand or even a sticker – this had none of that. I get that we’re not John Mayer but from a purely branding standpoint, it seems a little budget.
