Dear Gossips,

The most unexpected story saved me from a rough start this morning. I was too jacked up after the baseball game last night and slept terribly, stared at my laptop for an hour, completely unproductive and uninspired until I was saved. By gas.

The Celebrity Traitors is probably the biggest show on television in the UK right now – which is that much more remarkable considering it’s linear, on BBC. And it’s a great group of celebrities, that include “national treasures” like Stephen Fry and Clare Balding and popstars like Charlotte Church and comedians like Nick Mohammed and Alan Carr, and also well-known television personalities like Jonathan Ross. I haven’t watched but I’ve been hearing from people about how charming this version of the franchise is because the celebrities are having so much fun with it (they’re donating the winnings) and understand that the point here is to make good TV, not just advance their careers and gain more followers.

The fart happened last night and it was big ratings – nearly 7 million people watched, and heard, Celia Imrie’s toot, which is up 900,000 from the series premiere last week. People are already calling it one of the best television moments of the year. The power of a fart!

And not just to boost the show’s numbers, which is huge for the network, obviously, but also recognition. Because while, of course, I am familiar with Celia Imrie (I just wrote about The Diplomat yesterday and she has a key supporting role), to be honest whenever I see her – and she is in practically everything English, LOL – I know her as Una Alconbury from Bridget Jones. The Tarts and Vicars party… it’s iconic. I was today year’s old when I finally, belatedly, apologetically, met Celia by her proper name. Because she farted, LOLOLOLOL.

Celia is an award-winning actor from stage to screen – would she be insulted by this? Please. I’m the only clown in this conversation. Celia is a queen, a farting queen, she had a wonderful sense of humour about it when it slipped out of her, and I’m sure she was just as amused when she realised how viral she is right now. That only adds to the magic of that television moment, now one of the most famous farts of all time! It should be a point of pride!

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
