Intro for October 15, 2025
Dear Gossips,
Today we toast the series that don’t make us wait a f-cking eternity for a new season. Of course those of you who are devoted to The Pitt can be the puffiest about this because of how quickly they were able to get into production on the second season and among those I’m about to highlight, your fave show has the most episodes. But The Pitt isn’t the only one that operates with efficiency.
Season five of Slow Horses is currently airing and season six is in post. Season seven will begin filming by the end of this month. Which means, guaranteed, the next two seasons will air on schedule at the same time as usual in the fall. That’ll be seven seasons in five years by 2027 and they have not compromised on quality. This series is the standard when it comes to consistency on all levels.
And then there’s The Diplomat, maybe not as unanimously acclaimed as The Pitt and Slow Horses but it too is about to drop its third season in two and a half years. Season three will be available on Netflix tomorrow, the premiere was last night in New York.
Keri Russell is always spectacular. She is, of course, and rightly so, the main character Kate Wyler and the heart, soul, and brains of the embassy. But one actor doesn’t make a series and her husband, Hal, played by Rufus Sewell, is irresistible in this role. That said, I’m not sure he’s the show’s secret weapon. Because of Rory Kinnear as the British Prime Minister, season two’s sly scene stealer – and this is saying something, since Allison Janney joined the cast. (Disappointed that neither Rufus nor Rory were in NYC last night.) In season three, Allison’s coming back, with another West Wing alum, Bradley Whitford. CJ Craig and Josh Lyman are married now, LOL. And they’re America’s First Couple.
The Diplomat is extremely watchable. It is soapy, sometimes unserious, often absurd, and surprisingly hilarious in moments. I appreciate that it’s arriving now, on time, when I need it.
I also appreciate that Keri and Matthew Rhys were at the premiere together because some people had concerns. Nothing to see here… except, as usual, her steeze. Leather jacket with a popped collar and wearing the sh-t out of a pair of grey trousers. Her stylist, Frank Fleming, does not get enough credit for his work with her because Keri never misses.
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
