Dear Gossips,

Sarah’s post about the first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated The Odyssey that was released yesterday will go up this morning.

For now, let’s talk about Charlize Theron, it's her voice we hear at the top of the preview, in her role as Circe who, if memory serves, turned Odysseus’s men into swine but with Hermes's help, Odysseus convinces her to turn them back and then he and Circe f-ck for a year before she agrees to help him get back home to his wife and family. At least that’s how my dirty brain remembers it and now that I’ve written it out like that, I’m already looking forward to and at the same time dreading the spiral that this generation of TikTok and Gen Z viewers will be experiencing when this movie comes out and they realise that the hero who is supposed to be devoted to his wife has a transactional relationship with a goddess in exchange for knowledge – because characters in stories aren't supposed to be perfect! LOL, welcome to Greek mythology, where every character is deeply, sometimes disturbingly, flawed.

Anyway, back to Charlize who will soon start promoting The Odyssey alongside that enormous cast, and whose current movie, Apex, has been the #1 movie on Netflix for two weeks now. You may remember, a couple of weeks ago, Charlize was doing all kinds of press to promote Apex – and one of those promotional stops was SubwayTakes with Kareem Rahma. Her episode dropped yesterday and right away, the interview opens in the most Charlize Theron way possible… because one of my favourite things about Charlize is that she’s filthy, filthy in the best way. All the f-cks and no f-cks given.

Also, she’s not wrong. She is definitely not wrong about the thing she says is wrong, which I can’t even bring myself to type out because it is so wrong.

The other thing I love about her (among many) is what you see at the beginning of the entire episode, when Kareem’s team tells him that he needs to get moving because Charlize is on time. This makes her, in my experience and clearly in Kareem’s too, an anomaly… because celebrities more often than not don’t give a sh-t about anyone else’s time but their own. Charlize Theron, though, is not tardy. Charlize Theron respects the schedule!

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
