Pre-holiday date night

How are people still going places and doing things? The only reason I’ve made it through this week is I work from home and don’t have to go anywhere or put on pants. But here are celebrities, going places, doing things, wearing pants, as per usual. First up it’s Justin and Hailey Bieber, going to a holiday party in Beverly Hills.

I really have no opinion on these two, I am just idling in neutral, but the constant internet pile on speculating about the state of their marriage does make me root for these two. Prove the haters wrong, Biebers! Persist out of spite! Maybe I’m jumping the gun here, but they’ve made it another year, and it was a blockbuster year for Hailey, selling Rhode in May to e.l.f. for a billion dollars.

Next year promises to be big for the Biebs, who is headlining Coachella in April. It will be his first time headlining since 2022, a real comeback after revealing his diagnosis of Ramsay Hunt syndrome that year. I’ve never had strong feelings about Bieber’s music, but for a performer to have a diagnosis that affects mobility, hearing, potentially singing, I root for the comeback every time. I feel the same about Celine Dion, it’s good just to see her back out there, feeling the most emotions in the world.

A more lowkey celebrity couple also stepped out last night, as Brenda Song and Macaulay Culkin were at the ABC studio for Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where Culkin was a guest. It’s Christmastime, and people always want to see Culkin during the holidays because of Home Alone, but this year he’s actually promoting his roles in Fallout’s second season and Zootopia 2 (although he does have an obligatory Home Alone-themed commercial this year, too). Brenda Song also voices a character in Zootopia 2, but she did not appear on the show.

This is another couple I root for, though I am admittedly less neutral. For Mac I just want as much peace and happiness as he can get, and for Brenda I want her career to be bigger, dammit. Brenda Song should be a huge star! She’s funny and cool and beautiful! She has Running Point, which passes for a hit on Netflix, but that is Kate Hudson’s show, first and foremost. I want Brenda Song to have Her Thing. She steals scenes in everything she is in, she should be the lead by now, goddammit! At least Mac looks at her with stars in his eyes, someone around her has to recognize Brenda Song for the leading lady she truly is.
