Chris Evans was among the many stars in New York this weekend for New York Comic-Con. It’s a tricky time for actors to be appearing at events like this. SAG-AFTRA is still on strike, and talks have broken off between the guild and the AMPTP, with union president Fran Drescher calling the producers “disrespectful” for walking away from the negotiations. So while there was some initial hope when meetings resumed, especially after the AMPTP was able to reach a deal with the writers, right now it’s not looking great.

Which is why it would have been especially sensitive for any talent at NYCC because, remember, while the work stoppage is happening they can’t promote any projects past, present, or future that’s affiliated with the struck companies. In Chris Evans’s case, given that his most well-known role is playing Captain America, that means he basically talked about everything BUT the MCU.

And that works well for gossips because, with the ring on his finger, he did confirm (though I’m not sure it needed explicit confirming) that he and Alba Baptista are married, and referred to her as his wife.

So that’s what’s making big headlines from his appearance at NYCC. In addition to talking about wedding planning and how many ceremonies they had, Chris also said that he’s looking for a play, that he wants to get back onstage; his last Broadway run was in 2018. Like I said, the conversation was about anything BUT movies and television.

Still, what’s most interesting to me about his personal life, because so much of that is on the table since he can’t talk about work, is not the wedding but… his dog, Dodger. Dodger is famous, as we all know now. And Chris knows it too, because the internet basically loses it whenever Dodger shows up.

So he’s asked about Dodger – and his response is relatable to anyone who shares a home with a dog or dogs. When he describes how it feels when he looks at Dodger and he gets all intense and overcome with affection and love? That’s what it’s like to live with a dog. They’re the f-cking best. And he’s also right about how clueless the dogs are. Dodger doesn’t know he’s a star. My dogs don’t know that they’re f-cking hilarious and that everything they do, as mundane as it might be, is awesome to us. That’s what makes them so special. They’re just here to bring joy to our lives. They do so much in the short time, relatively, that they’re with us.
