Katie, Joshua, Constance, and peplum
The pap shots almost every day from the set of Katie Holmes’s Happy Hours, in which she’s directing and co-starring with Joshua Jackson, make it seem like this film is entirely exteriors. Here are some more pictures of Katie and Josh in a scene with Constance Wu the other day.
Since it was announced that Katie and Josh would be reuniting after all these years, professionally, there of course has been speculation, maybe even some wishful thinking, that it would turn personal. The personal part of the story… hasn’t happened. At least not yet. Instead, Josh was seen on a walk the other day with actress Priya Jain who previously dated Eric Dane. Priya seems to have a type.
No confirmation whether Josh and Priya are friends or more, but it kinda takes the wind out of any hopes for him and Katie, for now. But also, if Josh and Priya are indeed a thing, that’s another summer romance on the books for 2025.
As for Constance, in addition to this project she’ll also be seen soon in The Terminal List: Dark Wolf premiering at the end of the month. She will not, however, be seen soon in the sequel to Crazy Rich Asians because, well, they’re still working on it. We are coming up on seven years since the first movie came out – 15 August 2018 – and Henry Golding was recently asked about it. He confirmed that the intention is still there, but if it happens, it’ll take a while:
“They’re trying to put it together,” Golding shared. “I think there’s so many challenges when it comes to something so big and iconic like that, so hopefully, we can kind of piece it together and get something on the table.” (Source)
Even in the best of times in Hollywood, it’s so hard to get things made. And in this environment? More and more it looks like it’s going to take a miracle.
One of the highlights of Crazy Rich Asians was the fashion. Constance doesn’t need to be Rachel Chu to serve looks though because Katie’s giving her the opportunity on her movie. This is a crazy good oufit and for the last two days I’ve been trying to shop it for myself starting with these excellent black pants with the front white stripe.
I love the relaxed fit, the way the hem flares just slightly but not obnoxiously and ends just below the ankle. They’re so flattering on her and she’s not tall, which I find encouraging because some pants don’t work for short people, and I’m on the short side of life. It’s the stripe, the stripe is doing a lot here. So there are two good options that I’m deciding between.
Reiss has a pair that’s on sale right now, that’s probably why there aren’t many sizes left, I waited too long. But…then I saw that they have a side stripe option that might do the trick because you’ll note with these pants, even though the stripe is on the side, there’s a pleat down the front that functions like a stripe. They’re versatile too – you can wear them under a t-shirt or a sweater with sneakers or boots or heels and that material will take you from day to night.
I’m not ready to give up on the front stripe though and the Faye pants at Revolve are very, very close to Constance’s. Similar fall from hip to ankle, slight flare on the bottom, that stripe is exactly the right thickness, not too thick that is, and that’s an interesting waistline detail where it’s cut higher on both sides.
And then the peplum blouse. There’s a lot of peplum out there but so many of them are peasant style or strapless and what makes Constance’s so special is how well structured it is. This shirt is crispy, and it is the standard. So far there are no truly good duplicates, especially not short-sleeve. But a long sleeve might actually be better suited for fall.
This Temperley is pricey but it’s beautiful. That tiny collar, when buttoned up, is giving tuxedo and that theme is carried over in the back with the band that sits right above the ruffle, a really cute detail.
The Max Mara version is less expensive, but still looks rich, and while it doesn’t have the back band, its defining feature is that the peplum dips on both sides, giving the illusion of tails.
And finally, my personal favourite – peplum but a drop waist and it’s on sale and I f-cking love it. The EGONLAB white poplin top shirt because it’s one shirt but made to look like there’s a tank top sewn over it. I’m also into the puckering at the seams across the chest and over the shoulders, feminine and masculine at the same time. This is the one in my cart right now.
