While things didn’t exactly work out for Colin Farrell, Cristin Milioti capped off her run for The Penguin with an Emmy win. She showed up in a STUNNING red gown by Danielle Frankel:

I sort of wish she’d worn red lipstick, too, but maybe that would be a bridge too far. I DO love that she wore a watch as an accessory.

Milioti is, like Katherine LaNasa, an actor who’s been in a million things, from The Sopranos to playing “the mother” in How I Met Your Mother, to Fargo, Black Mirror, Mythic Quest, Palm Springs, and finally The Penguin. (Musical theater people will be annoyed if I don’t mention that she was in the original Broadway production of Once, for which she was nominated for a Tony.) She wore a great dress for her Emmy-winning night, with bonus cute moment of Colin Farrell helping her up the steps. It seems like they really did get a kick out of working together.

Speaking of ladies in red, when I saw Hunter Schafer, I gasped aloud. Her FACE and she’s so TALL and that McQueen DRESS and the RED, she just looked amazing.

I was in the “cast Hunter Schafer as Zelda, you cowards” camp when it came to casting a live-action Legend of Zelda movie. Alas, Bo Bragason was cast, and I’m sure she’ll do a great job, but I gaze upon Hunter Schafer’s visage and pine for what might have been. I hate to think Schafer loses out on big roles like that because she’s trans, but in the current climate, it’s impossible not to. But she IS working, besides Euphoria season three, she has a spin-off series called Blade Runner 2099 due next year, and she’s in David Lowery’s new movie, which is expected next year, too. I’m just irritated that Sydney Sweeney gets endless opportunities when Hunter Schafer, also a hot blonde, is right there.

Speaking of Sweeney, she showed up in Jessica Rabbit red again. She’s done better versions of this dress in the past. This version looks like the time I made a dress from a red tablecloth for a school play, except the tablecloth was draped by Oscar de la Renta.

There was also an odd moment during the Emmys when host Nate Bargatze appeared on stage in a denim tuxedo to introduce Sweeney as a presenter. It seemed like a prime setup for a joke about her “good jeans” American Eagle controversy, but he never made the joke. Coincidence or conspiracy?

The final lady in red is Selena Gomez in custom Louis Vuitton. This dress recalls gowns worn by Nicole Kidman and Emma Stone, but it’s such a good design concept, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

In other Selena news, The Cut ran an in-depth look at the collapse of Wondermind, the mental-health startup co-founded by Selena and her mother, Mandy Teefey. It sounds like a f-cking trainwreck, with dozens of regular people just trying to make a paycheck caught in the middle of what sure seems like a famous daughter giving her mother/former momager busy work to keep her out of Selena’s hair. I don’t know if anyone will ever ask Selena on the record about this, but teasing people with jobs is not how you occupy a complicated parent. Don’t get regular people caught up in your family business.
