Jacob Elordi is unsingle, just in time
Exactly a month ago, I posted about Jacob Elordi and Olivia Jade Giannulli’s breakup after PEOPLE reported it exclusively. The title of that post was “Jacob Elordi is single, just in time”. In time of course for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein and, in a few months, Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights. Then this past weekend, Olivia was seen with her parents in New York having dinner with Glen Powell. The presumption, immediately, was that the summer of celebrity romance has been extended with a new couple. Well, Jacob would like a word.
Frankenstein screened at TIFF last night. (Sarah is seeing it today and we’ll have her review later this week.) The film was mostly shot in Toronto, Guillermo has a place here, he’s made several movies here so, even though the world premiere already happened in Venice, this was a homecoming, and the project is already so highly anticipated, plus Jacob has a lot of fangirls… the point I’m trying to make is that there were a lot of eyes on the red carpet for this movie, it was a heatscore.
And Olivia showed up. In white.
Like, obviously, it’s much easier to blend in and go incognito if you’re in black, surrounded by publicists and studio teams in black, and security in black, and the SUVs are black, and most of the still photographers in the photo pit wear black. But that was not the choice she made. Jacob and Olivia arrived together, he was wearing a black suit but it’s hard to miss him since he’s a giant, and there she is, right next to him, noticeable AF in white with shades on, LOL.

Not subtle. Message delivered and received.
So either everyone got it wrong about the breakup or they got back together. Maybe it’s real fresh, the getting back together part, like as soon as Jacob clocked that Glen was coming around. That’s not my read but I’m sure it’s one of the versions of speculation.
Getting back together and inviting the attention at a high-profile film premiere are two different things that don’t have to coincide though. This was a choice. A choice to shut down the rumours and declare in the loudest way that they are indeed in a relationship? Or an added bonus to generate buzz for the film? Frankenstein world premiered in Venice and came out of that festival pretty hot. But there was so much going on at the time, with titles in Telluride generating momentum, and then the first weekend of TIFF showcasing multiple contenders for The Crown, and the aforementioned One Battle After Another popping off last night in LA, plus The Rock was in Toronto last night to build on the buzz he created in Venice for his performance in The Smashing Machine…
Frankenstein night at TIFF was meant to remind everyone that this film is also contending for The Crown. And now the love life of its young actor is making headlines. Is this good publicity? Let us know what you think at The Squawk. (App link here)
