All the love here over the past couple of days has been wonderful, but wondering how much goodwill I’m going to burn if I lean into my word-based curmudgeonism?

Because I love that The Wrap did an Emmy Season event.

I love that it focused on women – and I understand that they didn’t want to limit themselves to just “nominees” or were conscious of the fact that by September 10th, some nominees would be winners, some who didn’t win in their categories last Sunday would be, I guess, ‘previously nominated.’  Which – kudos to Constance Zimmer for being here and beaming anyway:

…but I digress. My curmudgeonly point isn’t, surprisingly, about the pink backdrop, or about why women need an event of their own (...who cares? Why do we have to justify it?) - but the catch-all title…

“The Wrap Celebrates The Women Of Emmy Season”

Look, I get it. Include people, include whoever! But then I’m like, overthinking it. And I hate when people get too literal with stuff like this! Yet here I am, all “...wait, was Jackie Tohn nominated and I didn’t realize?” She was not, but I’m glad she’s here because that brown leather dress is fantastic.

In fact, there was a lot of brown! Is this just trendy coincidence, like how neutrals take over every second season and I compulsively counter-buy every yellow item as a result? Or did someone/everyone get a tipoff about the intense pinkness and decide, correctly, that brown would

Abby Elliott’s in a dusty-dark chocolate sheath that I would like a lot better if the spaghetti straps had been shortened, SORRY.

And Rhea Seehorn, the presumptive winner on Monday night, looks swaggy and amazing in her suit.

And now I must sidebar for a PSA: if you haven’t watched Pluribus yet – the key is to have someone to watch with. Not just to ask each other what’s going on, although, yes – but because the nature of the show means there are long sequences without dialogue, which is often when we slip into looking at our phones, which will render us confused. So, hunt on TaskRabbit for someone to watch with you, because it is worth it.

You know what else is worth it? Going all out on an outfit when you’re going to be photographed, regardless of whether it’s ‘your’ time or not.  Sepideh Moafi is nominated but pretty unlikely to win Monday, but who cares because this blue suit is evvvverything.  The pink carpet set off almost everyone’s outfits beautifully, and hers is no exception –

…but to get the full effect, check out the picture that she posted from inside (actually outside) the party:

…Yeah. Emily and I have been speechless since we saw this. It’s bananas.

And she’s gonna top it on Monday night? As the kids say, let’s GO.
