He likes being airborne so that’s a flight reference for Tom Cruise who kicked off Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning in Tokyo yesterday with a press conference and a splashy premiere that featured all kinds of pyro. Of course there was pyro – Tom Cruise never does anything small.
You can see shots of that in the carousel he posted below where he mentions that it was his 25th visit to Japan. That’s how long his career has been, assuming most of the times he’s been there he’s been working (and he’s always working) it means he’s promoted almost 25 movies there?! This is what I’m jealous about, not the working part but the Tokyo part. Japan is my favourite country in the world, I f-cking wish I could go that many times.

Tom is joined on the trip by director Christopher McQuarrie (who also seems like he might be his best friend these days – is David Miscavige jealous?) and co-stars Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Pom Klementieff, and Greg Tarzan Davis who, I hope, will break out huge after this movie. He is a cutie!
Tom and the M:I crew have already left Tokyo and they’re now in Korea. Another presser is happening tomorrow in Seoul, followed by a red carpet. Just as it was in Japan, Tom is super popular with Koreans too, he has “ajussi” status, an expression of respect for a man who’s older, like uncle age. I’m curious to see if he and the cast will participate yet again on any Korean variety shows, like Running Man or You Quiz on the Block. He’s done it before, back in 2018, one of the first major Hollywood stars to make an appearance. Clearly the marketing team, at least then, understood the influence of variety programming in the Korean market.
As for what we’ve been gossiping about lately where Tom is concerned, he took Ana de Armas to David Beckham’s 50th birthday party the other night in London and Ana showed up in one of the photos that Victoria posted on Instagram.
Everyone’s taking this to mean that Victoria has confirmed that Ana is indeed Tom’s girlfriend. I don’t know if Victoria meant to confirm anything, but I do think she was flexing a bit about the star power at the party. It was already enough of a confirmation that Tom took Ana there, though, non? Will be interesting to see if Ana’s around when the press tour reaches London. It’s probably not likely but I want to see a spectacle.
