Give us a shocker Beyond the Villa
Love Island USA has been doing big numbers this summer but the consensus is that it’s been a shambolic season – overproduced, interfered with, badly paced, and also problematic islanders. I haven’t posted yet about Cierra’s apology, am “holding space” for it next week. In the meantime, the finale is happening on Sunday and since I can’t say that I believe in any of these couples, I’m hoping for a major shocker, like earth-shattering.
Because if no one’s really found love… do they really have to split the $100K? Imagine if we actually see a situation in which one of a couple decides to bounce with the whole bounty? Like… Olandria?! This is the finale I want.
Also on Sunday night – the premiere of Beyond the Villa, starring the gold standard cast of season six. PPG is back, baby! A whole year later, the three top couples from 2024 are still together: Serena and Kordell, JaNa and Kenny, and Leah and Miguel found love in the villa and the love has lasted!
Leah, by the way, who was the biggest star to emerge from the villa in season six, at least in terms of followers, continues to do big things. It was just announced that she’s basically the boss at Skylar now.
Beyond the Villa, this Sunday on Crave in Canada and Peacock in the US.

The Ringer’s ranking of the most cursed moments from Love Island USA season seven. (The Ringer)
I have loooooooved Vanessa Kirby’s Fantastic Four press tour wardrobe so far and this dress is another winner. So creative that it overcomes a boring colour and I wish I could touch it to feel what those strands are. It’s Loewe, definitely one of the best looks we’ve seen all year. (Go Fug Yourself)
Kayleigh Donaldson’s excellent piece, “Don’t Ever Try to Claim that #MeToo Went Too Far”, is a must read. (Pajiba)
As I’ve been saying, Kpop Demon Hunters has still not plateaued. The soundtrack is still climbing and “Golden”, the song that will contend for Oscar from the soundtrack, has now been serviced to radio. The movie isn’t just getting support from Netflix, it’s also getting support from Republic Records. So it has the support of a streaming service and the label. Will be interesting to see during award season how strong they push with the campaign. (Billboard)
Maria has been writing about Netflix’s shenanigans as they’re not renewing The Residence. Apple is doing better and Murderbot is getting season two. (Celebitchy)
