Chris Martin and son Moses were seen in New York earlier this week, just after Father’s Day. Chris played two shows with Coldplay in Texas last Friday and Saturday and is on a break from touring for three weeks until the second week of July when they’re in Toronto for five shows. That’s just over an hour flight from NYC, if he’s in NYC for that whole stretch.
Not trying to be nosy with his whereabouts, I’m just mentioning location because NYC is where we last saw Dakota Johnson and they broke up not long ago, although it was interesting that Chris shouted out Materialists during one of his concerts like two days before news broke that they were no longer together. So far there haven’t been any denials about the split so that’s where we are – Chris is freshly single, for reasons that might have to do with this tour? I just realised when I was checking for where he was before heading to New York to see Moses that the Music of the Spheres tour has been happening since March 2022 – that’s over THREE YEARS. And sure, there are breaks here and there but by the end of this thing later this year they’ll have played something like 225 shows all around the world which basically means there’s not that much time for much life in between.
Anyway, seeing Chris and Moses together f-cks me up the same way it always f-cks me up when celebrities show up with their very grown children. Moses is now 19 years old, is as tall as if not taller than Chris (not surprising considering he comes from two tall parents – Gwyneth Paltrow is legitimately tall). He’s studies at Brown, would have just completed his second year. And since it’s summer and Gwyneth is known to spend a lot of time in the summer in the Hamptons, that’s another reason why they could be in New York. Not just Moses but Chris too since they’ve been so close, still, after all these years.
Chris was in several of the slides that Gwyneth posted for Father’s Day, including a video that was likely taken when Apple debuted at the Bal des Debutantes last year. It’s the tenth item in the carousel below – Chris and Gwyneth are in dance rehearsal.
It’s the most GP post ever because so many other celebrities make appearances, like Jerry Seinfeld, Robert Downey Jr, and Ted Sarandos, the head of Netflix who probably just casually stops by for dinner now and again.
In other Gwyneth news, she was in Italy yesterday for the Max Mara show. And there’s some old gossip here that only old people will remember. I’ll show you the photo and test your recall.
G is seated next to Sharon Stone, and there was beef here years ago. It happened after GP hosted SNL in 1999. In that episode, Gwyneth plays Sharon and makes a snarky comment about Sharon’s then-husband Phil Bronstein. Sharon later did an interview with Movieline (honestly, gossip is poorer for Movieline not being around anymore because Movieline was also the publication where JLo talked sh-t about allllllll the actresses of the time) during which she was asked about Gwyneth’s SNL portrayal of her and had this to say:
“(Gwyneth is) very young and lives in a rarefied air that's very thin . . . like she's not getting enough oxygen."
I will never not associated the words “rarified air” with Sharon Stone and Gwyneth Paltrow. And it’s not like Sharon didn’t nail it. This is our issue with Gwyneth – her rarified air, which we now call privilege.
They made up over cocktails on a balcony in France years later. So there would have been no awkwardness yesterday at the fashion show. But it did give us some gossip nostalgia.
