Intro for March 19, 2025

Taylor Swift showed up virtually at the iHeart Music Awards the other night to accept all her awards, including Tour of the Century. 

She was wearing a snake necklace and of course that could not have been an accident given what the snake has symbolised over the course of her career.

Swifties have been waiting for reputation TV for a while now, and Taylor’s been quiet for a while now. Quiet on social media since December, quiet with the sightings since the Super Bowl. The snake necklace, then, has been received as a message – that Rep TV is coming.

As Sarah mentioned the other day, though, Taylor and Travis Kelce have popped up a couple of times over the last couple of weeks. First in Park City, Utah and then again in New York for dinner. But the energy has been totally different. I’m sure we’re all familiar with the spectacle of T&T stepping out in New York; this is what made it fun at the beginning of the relationship. That they weren’t hiding, that she’d found someone who didn’t mind the chaos that came with being with her. 

That’s not to say that Travis minds this now, of course not. But I’m curious about the mood change and why they’re not as interested in giving up the shots now. Whether or not that’s just part of her retreat from the spotlight, a savvy decision after two years of being the most main character on the planet, as an act of self-preservation and dual preservation. So that, obviously, when she is ready to make a drop, and a drop is definitely coming, it has that much more impact. 

We are still in the Year of the Snake. And Taylor is pop culture’s most high profile Snake, temporarily coiled at rest to preserve warmth. It has to be this year, right?
