We’ll start with Selena Gomez, double nominee, at the Golden Globes last night, full of personal and professional glow. On the personal side, she’s newly engaged, attending with fiancé Benny Blanco who was also there as her biggest fanboy who was roasted during the opening monologue and took it very well.

On the professional side, well, double nominee says it all. Selena was recognised for her work in Emilia Pérez and Only Murders in the Building, film and television. Emilia Pérez is where she’s getting the most attention recently but Only Murders is the reason she continues to be invited to the Globes and Critics Choice and the SAGs. We are seeing her range – comedy, drama, musicals, music, unscripted, beauty, philanthropy… this woman is a powerhouse. And remember, for the most part, at least in acting, her work is in the ensemble. She’s yet to, at this supersonic stage of her career, step into a role in a project where she’s the main lead. That will come, no doubt, and she’s already at this level of success. It’s been win after win after win for Selena – and it looks great on her, it looks like she’s ready for it. She has been candid and vulnerable in sharing that she wasn’t prepared when she was younger, struggling with her mental health. But the work she did in her 20s is now paying off, beautifully, in her 30s.

Selena was in Prada last night at the Globes. I like the styling more than I like the dress, if that makes sense. That is, she and her stylist Erin Walsh did the best they could to elevate what was an otherwise pretty generic look. Or maybe it’s that her off-white suit in Palm Springs a couple of days prior was already the showstopper of the weekend. This? It’s UNREAL.

Last year at the Globes, Selena was the big gossip – serving it and at the center of it. The whole lip-reading thing, remember? The speculation at the time was that it was something to do with Timothée Chalamet, who she is/was friends with, and Kylie Jenner. All three were back in the ballroom, only this year Selena stayed out of the drama because there was enough of it where Timmy and Kylie are concerned without an assist from her.

Social media popped off over the holidays over this seemingly innocuous video of Kylie with her daughter and niece.

I don’t know how TikTok gets from point A to B but for whatever reason(s), this was enough for them to pop off about her being pregnant. So the anticipation surrounding her possible appearance was even more jacked because these people were actually thinking Kylie would announce at the Globes.

There would be no announcement, obviously. Another social media gossip wild goose chase.

Let’s focus instead on Kylie + Timmy and their second Golden Globes in a row. Last year, he was nominated for Wonka, no chance of winning. And there was no way Wonka would secure him an Oscar nomination. This year, with all the buzz surrounding his performance in A Complete Unknown, he is a very good possibility for an Oscar and we’ve been waiting to see how Kylie would factor into the campaign, if at all.

Would he want to keep his romance with a Kardashian-Jenner out of the conversation so as not to risk turning off some voters? The answer, we know now, clearly is no. And I f-cking love this. Not just because of the gossip but because Timothée, undeniably the top actor of his generation, and the youngest contender in the Best Actor field this season, isn’t subscribing to the usual Oscar playbook and navigating the circuit with the seriousness and maturity of someone a decade older than he is just so some old ass voter in Palm Springs will take him seriously.

Because his work is already serious. His talent is already serious. That’s all that should matter and the rest of it is just who he is. Unserious at times on social media, on the red carpet, with his outfits, with his random Instagram livestreams, dancing and giggling, and taking his shirt off and setting thirst traps and whatever it is that moves him. After all, it worked. The film is a hit, people are seeing it, the older generation is seeing it, the younger generation is drawn to it. Why, then, would those tired Oscar rules apply to him?

Timmy seems unbothered by the internet haters who refuse to accept his relationship and whatever pressure might be coming from the industry dictating how a young actor should behave. I love this about him. And I loved that she was there with him.

Although the making out from last year was definitely scaled back. There was a kiss though, and while the cameras were around. He had his hand on her thigh at their table.

And hand holding as they made their way to the parties.

Timmy is clearly not hiding Kylie. And also, for all the disapproval that the internet is throwing around about them, that didn’t seem to be in the room. Because Timmy was seated with his young Hollywood castmates, Monica Barbaro and Elle Fanning, and all of them seemed to be pretty close. Also? Zendaya stopped by for a greeting and a visit.

And she didn’t seem to be hiding either…

At an award show, typically we talk about Zendaya’s looks. The clothing this time is secondary. Because of that ring. The ring is not Bulgari, which is an important detail because she’s an ambassador so, typically, any jewels she wears at a high profile event like this would be all Bulgari. The necklace is Bulgari, the ring on her right hand is Bulgari… but THAT ring is NOT Bulgari.

It’s Jessica McCormack, London based jeweller, known for engagement rings. And perhaps most significant – it doesn’t exactly work with the rest of the jewels. This is not a detail that Zendaya and Law Roach would miss. Never. Not if it was just an accessory.

Zendaya is not new. She knows the scrutiny she is under every time she steps out and dressed. She knows how the internet feels about her, the effect she has on the timeline. And the effect that she and Tom Holland have, together, on the timeline. So there is no way she wouldn’t be aware of how people would react to that ring on that finger. And she did it anyway.

Then there’s this report in the LA Times by Amy Kaufman.

Amy Kaufman's report on Zendaya

Based on all of that, I mean, all signs are pointing… non?

I’m less convinced by the videos that people are isolating from her interaction with Ayo Edebiri. Like this screenshot of Ayo seemingly looking at her hand.

If you watch the full clip, Ayo is animated but it’s not necessarily directed at Z’s finger.

All the other details though? Like where the ring is from and how it doesn’t really fit with the rest of the jewels and how she responded when the reporter asked her? That to me is much more convincing. Are we clowning, or is this legit?!
