The bucket list moments just don’t seem to stop for EJAE. We are still not yet a year from Kpop Demon Hunters, but it’s close. The most watched movie in Netflix history was released on June 20, 2025, a year ago next Saturday. It won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature and an Oscar for EJAE for Best Original Song, the biggest prize, in addition to the Grammy and the Golden Globe. And now…the World Cup.

EJAE performed at the opening match in Mexico yesterday alongside Andrea Bocelli, an official anthem for the tournament called “DNA (More Than a Game)” that includes lyrics in multiple languages, including Italian and Korean. What a moment it must have been for her, to be able to sing a track that specifically calls to her cultural background. And…on that note…“DNA” is also the title of one of BTS’s biggest hits, and we already know how popular BTS and K-pop are in Mexico. So the math is mathing here.

The glow is glowing, too. Like, EJAE is gorgeous, we all know this, but her glam team went all out with the hair and the makeup here because her SKIN is insane.

Also, this dress. I love it. It’s a take on a Disney princess dress…but so much more modern. The white parts pop so strikingly against the blue. And the movement is divine. Like, you’re getting the volume on her hips, and it’s cleverly bustled on each side to create even more shape, so from some angles it evokes a rather traditional ballgown. But it’s also short underneath, to expose as much leg as she wants to when she’s moving. And it also allows for easier movement – basically a super elevated mullet dress, can we call it that?

I’m calling it that, or at least seeing it that way, because I’ve been wearing a lot of mullet dresses lately. Not as formal as EJAE’s, more for cocktail than a major event. But what I like about them is for the reason just noted in EJAE’s case, it’s the comfort. You get the effect of a maxi dress for summer but it’s just easier to walk. And you can have it both ways – legs exposed but not around the back.

I’m travelling for work soon and there’s a mullet dress in my suitcase right now that I’ll be wearing at one of the events. From my favourite brand – the Sacai Black Floral Printed Midi Dress. The sheer black sleeves are so pretty, the way it drops through the waist and the hips is comfortable, and the mullet hem is pleated which adds to the swing when I’m walking around.

I also have the Sacai Nylon Twill Skirt in the suitcase. Still mullet, but a skirt instead of a dress. The pleating is there, though. And it looks great under a blazer.

Mullet dresses, in pop culture, connect for me to a specific time: the mid 2000s, boho style, think Sienna Miller and Kate Moss. So it makes sense that AllSaints, a British brand, can be relied on for a wide variety of mullet dresses. They actually have a more affordable version of the Sacai dress right now. The Shaela Floral Frill Maxi Dress also has a cap sleeve and the print is lovely and the mullet is cut even higher. Plus, a better price point. This one is currently hanging on my work rack, waiting to be worn in a few weeks.

There’s another – literally called the Sienna Ruffle Maxi Dress in blush pink that I can totally picture on Sienna Miller in 2006. When I tried this on it felt like I was wearing nothing, so light and delicate, perfect for packing on a summer trip.

Anthropologie is also really good for a summer mullet. I really liked the colour pattern of the Bardot Doja Asymmetric Dress and it’s an aggressive mullet, cut quite high on one side. I tried it on two sizes up, though, so it drops lower, and I wore it with a black bralette over combat boots and it totally worked.

Here’s a less risqué option – the Ronny Kobo Jacquard Midi Dress also at Anthropologie. It’s cut high both front and back, and the longer pieces on each side are really flattering. Cute under a denim jacket and with sneakers.

The Revolve Leona High Low Ruffle Dress is exactly that: mullet and ruffles. The way the ruffles gather around the legs reminded me of an upturned flower. This dress was reallllly pretty, the only reason we didn’t keep it on the rack was because of my tits. If you can go without a bra (lucky you!), she’s a beauty.

Free People is also a brand that’s always good for boho and while the Coastal Winds Maxi Dress isn’t a true mullet, it behaved like one when I tried it on – like it didn’t feel like there was much fabric to push when I was walking forward. And this shade of light peach is so appealing to me, I might actually keep it for my personal closet after I wear it for work.

I’m definitely keeping this one. The asymmetrical high-low hem organza dress at Simons is under $100, it’s a mullet dress and a tutu, and a smock insert at the back. All my favourite things.

This is a more conventional mullet dress, also from Simons – the Ivana mint green ruffled minidress. It’s the mint green, it’s so fresh, it’s so happy. And it’s not a colour I wear a lot, but this was irresistible, I’m going to throw it over a fitted white short sleeved bodysuit.

And a third option from Simons that lives up to its name, the tiered airy chiffon ruffle dress. When I tried it on, I thought of cherry blossoms, automatic yes.

Then there’s Zara. There will never not be at least five asymmetrical options at Zara. The Lace Trim Ruffled Strappy Dress is a classic. We’re actually keeping this on the rack permanently because it will never not work and can be worn with so many options on top – a jean jacket, a leather jacket, a long blazer, a cropped blazer, a bomber, a sweater vest… almost anything.

Also, the Plaid Halter Dress. Not a true mullet but it is an asymmetric hem, and I love the way it hangs off the body and how the material gathers slightly below the neck. And the size of the plaid is so chic.
