As mentioned in today’s open, it is a busy week in celebrity. They’re all over the place – and it’s the usual suspects but also those who aren’t seen that often. Like Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, who spent most of the last year in England but are this week in New York. Here they are yesterday holding hands in Soho while out for lunch. Does this mean they’ve relocated back to the US? Or is this a short trip? It’s an interesting week to ask this because it’s back to school in a lot of places, including NYC and England. That’s true of Toronto too, where I live, and almost every parent I know has been busy with back to school over the last few days so it’s been on my mind too, even as a non-parent, which is why I’m wondering about Emily and John and their base.
Or it could be that they’re only in town for a few days, like for an event. The Met Gala, of course, is on Monday. Emily and John have been to the Met Gala a few times together. First in 2012:
And again in 2013, when the theme was punk and, well, they skipped it:
And she was last at the Met Gala, without John, in 2019, in Michael Kors.
If she’s going on Monday, it’s most likely she’ll be in Michael Kors again. Especially since the theme this year is American fashion, so American designers will be front and centre, and she’s one of MK’s regulars.
Beyond the celebrity co-chairs, an official Met Gala guest list has not yet been confirmed. There’s only been rumours, although we now know for sure that Rihanna will be there since she’s hosting an after-party, and Jennifer Lopez seems like a lock. Everyone else though is pure speculation for now. People were trying to buzzkill it earlier this week, something something about how Anna Wintour was having trouble securing attendees. I don’t buy it. Given what we’ve just seen in Venice, and how extra the celebrities all were on the carpet, everybody wants to go on Monday. And everyone wants to turn it up.
