Everything Keke
Keke Palmer is in New York today. She showed up to Brandon Maxwell’s fashion show in lilac and also lit up the Empire State Building wearing the sh-t out of a red dress, WOW.
Everything is coming up Keke right now. Her new movie, One of Them Days, is a hit. So much so that people clearly want more of her – and are finding her past work and pumping that up too. Under the Boardwalk, an animated film released in 2023, is currently in the Top 10 on Netflix around the world. There’s no hard data that proves that people are watching it because of One of Them Days, but the timing definitely tracks.
In other Keke news, it was announced last September that she’d be starring in a television series based on the 1989 movie The Burbs. And more cast members are now confirmed, including Jack Whitehall who will play Keke’s husband. Keke and Jack? I don’t know if I can see it, but since it’s Keke, she’ll make it work, she always does.
What else happened today...
Some of you have emailed to ask about the Vanity Fair cover story about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that came out a few weeks ago and whether or not I’d be writing about it. Finally finished my essay, Meghan & Harry: Influence & Service, and it’s over at our Substack, The Squawk. Subscribe to read and join the chat! (The Squawk)
Denzel Washington pretty much confirmed during the Gladiator II press tour that he’ll be in Black Panther 3. And as I said at the time, Denzel is pretty much the only actor on the planet who can say whatever the f-ck he wants to say about any Marvel project he might be involved in without having Marvel trying to silence him or assign a babysitter so that he doesn’t spoil their plans (see Tom Holland). The producers, it would seem, are conceding that point too. (Pajiba)
Brie Larson, another member of the MCU. She has a buzzcut now which I wouldn’t have been able to tell if the Fug Girls hadn’t mentioned it. The lighting in this shot isn’t great around her head, it kinda just looks like she has her hair back in a bun. But there is no more hair to put in a bun because she’s buzzed it all off. And looks amazing. She has a head for it. (Go Fug Yourself)
The Grammys were also a telethon and now the totals are in – this is a big number, and the proceeds will go to supporting victims of the LA wildfires. Which means they managed to carry on with award season, employing so many people who need jobs right now, and raise money, and also make it the kind of spectacle that viewers want. Now let’s see how the Oscars manage. (Celebitchy)
Ted Lasso fans – if you’re wondering who Keeley ended up with, Roy or Jamie, Juno Temple has the answer. (The Mary Sue)
