Katie and Blake and Kylie at the CFDAs

Once upon a time there was a network on regular television, before we watched everything on our phones, called The WB. And one of the most popular shows on The WB was Dawson’s Creek. The main female lead on Dawson’s Creek was Joey Potter, played by Katie Holmes. 

The WB died in the mid-2000s and in its place a new network was born: The CW. One of the most popular shows on The CW was Gossip Girl. One of the two main leads of Gossip Girl was Serena van der Woodsen, played by Blake Lively. This is why Katie and Blake are always linked in my mind. 

Last night both Katie and Blake were at the CFDA Awards in New York City. This was Blake’s first official public appearance since the It Ends With Us press tour ended up in shambles. Still funny to me that we talk about the movie that way considering it was a box office hit. Two months later and Blake is back on the scene, presenting to her good friend Michael Kors at one of the major fashion events on the fall calendar because, allegedly, she is a fashion girl. Here’s Blake with Anna Wintour and I’m showing you this to remind you of what you already know: that even though everyone was mad at her on TikTok, in the circles that matter to her, nothing has changed. Blake will be OK. And by the time she’s promoting A Simple Favor 2 next year, the conversation will be different. 

As for Katie – she’s in pink and red colour-block Carolina Herrera and we saw a lot of this about a decade ago, so it feels a little like a fresh throwback, does that make sense? It’s familiar… but since we haven’t seen it in a while, there is a newness to it. She looks great. 

This might be my favourite Katie Holmes red carpet look in a while. 

And with that same energy, I was just talked about Kylie Jenner at the Academy Museum Gala because that was the most I liked and remembered one of her outfits and now we’re going two for two. Because this black spiky dress, Jean Paul Gaultier by Haider Ackermann, is sublime. The styling is perfect, I love what they’ve done with the hair here with that hairpiece attached like a ponytail and a bob at the same time, SO good. What’s the story behind this level-up? Is this a preview for award season?
