Florence Pugh and Zach Braff started dating in 2019. They walked so that Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles could run…in that, well, Florence and Zach were basically the exact opposite of Zendaya and Tom Holland – as in, not the internet’s favourite couple. Although, looking back in comparison to what it was like when Olivia and Harry were together, the hate that fans had for Flo and Zach was like entry level, training days hostility for how badly Olivia was harassed.
Anyway, after spending the early part of the pandemic together, Florence confirmed last August in Harper’s Bazaar that she and Zach had broken up a few months prior.
“We’ve been trying to do this separation without the world knowing, because it’s been a relationship that everybody has an opinion on. We just felt something like this would really do us the benefit of not having millions of people telling us how happy they are that we’re not together. So we’ve done that. I automatically get a lumpy throat when I talk about it.”
Relationships are hard enough. Fame and success make it harder. And then when you add to all that, as she says, “millions of people telling us how happy they [would be if] we’re not together”, it’s probably not surprising that they couldn’t make it work. It is the work, though, that remains. Because when they were still romantically involved, they made a movie together.
A Good Person will be released on March 24. Zach wrote, produced, and directed the film; Flo is also a co-producer, and the star, alongside Morgan Freeman. So here they are, Flo and Zach together again, last night in London at the premiere. They even coordinated their outfits and posed side-by-side on the red carpet without, seemingly, any awkwardness. Which, obviously, is indicative of how amicable their breakup was and also how good at business they are – this, after all, is a project they’ve both invested in, and the priority is for it to succeed. Presenting a united front helps everyone…
And, sorry, but on that note, even though it’s petty, like how can your mind not go to Don’t Worry Darling?!
Right, right, we are way past that now, DWD has come and gone and so have Olivia and Harry and everyone has moved on so… next?
Florence was announced as a presenter at the Oscars. She was just in Paris a few days ago at the Valentino show in a sheer skirt. Will it be Valentino again on Sunday?
