Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein rolls into select theaters next week—seriously, see this on a big screen if you can—and Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, and Jacob Elordi, the Frankencrew, if you will, celebrated with dinner in Paris last night. Frankenstein has me tentatively boarding the Jacob Elordi train, but I struggle to take seriously a man who wears sunglasses at night.

Of all the films I saw at TIFF, Frankenstein has stuck with me the most. I keep coming back to different elements, turning over del Toro’s departures and elaborations. I want to see it again, and I’m working my way through del Toro’s oeuvre, because Frankenstein feels like the culmination of all his work so far. Not his pinnacle, I don’t think we’ve seen del Toro hit his peak yet—except the Crimson Peak, bah dum ching—but Frankenstein is a capstone moment in his body of work.

Another aspect of the film I cannot stop thinking about is how much Elordi’s Creature looks like Nicholas Hoult. I really need everyone to see this movie and tell me if I’m crazy or if he really DOES look like Nicholas Hoult. In the marketing, they are wisely sitting on the full reveal of the Creature—one of del Toro’s most romantic monsters, to be sure—but you can kind of see his face at the end of the official trailer that dropped last week.

Am I crazy? Do you see it? That’s Nicholas Hoult, right? I know, I know, squishy eyeball sounds, gross! But also, the monster looks like Nicholas Hoult. Doesn’t he?

Finally in Frankencrew news, Tiffany recently announced a collaboration with del Toro and Netflix, as Frankenstein features archival Tiffany jewels worn by Mia Goth’s character:

There’s a Frankenstein themed window display at their NYC flagship store which I would love to see. Forget Santaland and Christmas displays, THIS is the only window display I care about in 2025.
