Ana de Armas was photographed in LA yesterday with a man identified by TMZ as Marcelo Valente, a venture capitalist. No confirmation on whether or not this is more than a friendship but the accompanying detail to this maybe story maybe non-story is that it could be her first romance since “breaking up” with Tom Cruise. I’m not sure anyone who closely follows celebrity gossip was thoroughly convinced that Ana and Tom were actually dating, although they both certainly were aware of the speculation and did nothing to dispel it.

For Ana, there was some convenience to the Tom connection. If you recall, she was in a relationship with Manuel Anido Cuesta, the stepson of controversial and allegedly corrupt Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel and was eating a lot of sh-t for it from the Latin American community. The rumours about Ana and Tom redirected the online conversation about Ana, coincidently just before she moved into the promotional cycle for John Wick: Ballerina which ended up flopping at the box office.

Now, months later, she and Tom are done, she’s no longer spending most of her time in London, and instead has been papped more frequently in LA, as it’s being reported that she’s in final negotiations to star in a new film with Benicio del Toro and Cameron Diaz, by director Grant Singer, called Reenactment. For Ana then, it’s a rebound on multiple levels. Like, forget about her personal life, professionally it seems like she’s kinda… stalled?

Ana de Armas was on a hot streak there for a few years, coming out of Knives Out, then as a Bond girl in No Time to Die, and I’m pretty sure most of us forgot this because I totally did – she was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar in 2022/23 for playing Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik’s Blonde! That film was not well received, and there would have probably been more WTF-ing about her nomination but it happened the same year as the Andrea Riseborough controversy, which was the Oscar f-ckery that dominated the circuit that season.

For Ana though, since that nomination, it seems like her momentum has flatlined. This piece of casting news is a step in the right direction.

What else happened today…

I posted about Glen Powell hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend and what did I say?! That he has the right vibe for it – which is why it should not be a surprise that his first promo for the show is so f-cking good. As Dustin Rowles writes, Glen is game for it. He’s giving everything here and he will keep giving everything in the live broadcast. This is setting up for a strong episode. (Pajiba)

Love this outfit on Elizabeth Olsen and I really want to see her new movie, Eternity. More on the film in the days to come so let’s focus on this look. It’s a great suit, with the white cuffs built into the jacket. Also the perfect exposed bra choice. And I love the longer jacket, shorter pants combination. With a shoe choice meant to show proportionate and balanced amount of skin. Top tier styling here. (Go Fug Yourself)

Martin Scorsese and Robbie Robertson were close friends and longtime collaborators. Their friendship is an obsession for a certain intersection of cinephiles and music nerds, and Robbie’s posthumous new book, Insomnia, further mythologises that relationship. (The Ringer)

Are Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater still together? The movie is about to come out and she’s a frontrunner for Best Supporting Actress. Maintaining the status quo right now is critical. (Celebitchy)

This article was written for me – I’m an old ass bitch and I have slumber parties with my friends all the time. (Vox)
