Kristen Stewart’s feature directorial debut, The Chronology of Water, continues trekking through film festivals on its way to an unspecified December release date. Last night was the UK premiere at the BFI London Festival.

KStew showed up in a sporty Chanel number and rather severe bangs. How do we feel about these bangs? I feel like KStew is punk enough to pull them off without it looking like a cry for help, but your mileage may vary.

Also on hand was the film’s star, Imogen Poots, in a very dark red velvet dress. Once again, people dressing for completely different weather had me googling the temperature in London (54F/12C).

The Chronology of Water has been well received through its festival appearances this year, staring with its debut at Cannes. Relatively new indie distributor The Forge is set to release it in limited theaters in December for an awards-qualifying run, before expanding in January. I’m stuck on the fact that it still does not have a specific release date yet, though, plus the lack of a trailer two(ish) months from release, and how December is already pretty busy. It’ll be easy for a smaller film to get lost in the year-end rush of qualifying film releases.

I know she’s not appearing on screen in this film, but Kristen Stewart remains one of the most recognizable stars of her generation, hard to believe that’s not worth something when it comes to releasing a new film. She’s been front and center at their festival appearances, obviously someone understands there is interest in KStew’s directorial debut. There’s just a weird lack of energy around this film, given that it premiered at Cannes and is getting an awards season push. I just hope that The Chronology of Water doesn’t get lost in the shuffle, but, well. I’m not holding my breath.
