Intro for July 24, 2024

Dear Gossips,   

Today is Jennifer Lopez’s 55th birthday. So far on social media she’s been reposting birthday tributes from fans in her IG stories but, at the time of this writing, she hasn’t yet shared anything new. And of course everyone continues to wonder about him, and whether or not he’ll show up, or be mentioned, and if he’s not then that will be a story too. 

JLo spent part of yesterday out on a bike ride with her friends, still wearing her wedding ring. Does that even matter anymore? 

Right now, for the purposes of this post, it doesn’t, because I’d rather talk about how she always manages to bounce back. As we have seen, the last few months haven’t been great for JLo… which is normal, for anyone, even celebrities. And she certainly understands this – there have been several dips throughout her career. The thing about JLo, though, is that her dips don’t ever last long. Duana made this observation years ago on our Show Your Work podcast- JLo is Teflon. Nothing sticks to her. She has always, somehow, found a way to shake it off. 

And she’s already been giving that energy over the last couple of weeks in the Hamptons, especially this week with the announcement that she’ll be heading to TIFF with a new film, aptly named: Unstoppable. She’s hitting the festival circuit, promoting a festival film, and remember, back in May/June she’d completed filming on Kiss of the Spider Woman, written and directed by Bill Condon. Presumably, that film will head into post-production soon, if it hasn’t already, and will be ready for its own run next year. And Spider Woman also sounds like the kind of project that could have a festival presence… maybe even Cannes if it’s ready on time? 

In Chinese astrology, JLo is a Rooster. You can’t keep a Rooster quiet for too long. 

Staying with Chinese astrology… we have seen the rise of a Dragon this week. Can a Dragon save democracy in the Year of the Dragon?
