Kate & Co.
Running Point starring Kate Hudson drops today on Netflix. To promote the show, Kate and her co-stars Jay Ellis (v. handsome), Scott MacArthur, Drew Tarver, Justin Theroux, and Brenda Song appeared at the Paley Museum in New York last night.
I’m not convinced this show is appointment viewing, but it looks cute.
It certainly has a killer cast, and it was co-created by Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, David Stassen, and Elaine Ko (who has since left the show), so it has some comedy chops. And Lakers owner and president Jeanie Buss is one of the executive producers, so it has legit basketball bona fides, too. Once Oscar craziness dies down, maybe I’ll get around to it (though Marvel’s Daredevil sequel/reboot series starts next week, too).
I also want to draw attention to Brenda Song, in a great neon striped dress and who really should be headlining her own series. She’s a standout in The Last Showgirl, too, and it drives me nuts she’s not a bigger deal. But she’s in this month’s Cosmopolitan along with her partner, Macaulay Culkin, and they both seem pretty settled and content, so maybe she’s exactly where she wants to be.
Also, their Cosmo profile—for which they are the first romantic couple to appear on the magazine’s cover—is written by Hunter Harris, so you should read the whole thing. I’m glad that Kate Hudson, always an underrated actor, has been getting these great comedic roles lately, but I wish someone would write a Birdie Jay for Brenda Song, too, you know? She’s always deserved better than she’s gotten from Hollywood. Here’s hoping there’s a leading role in her future, sooner rather than later. It’s already overdue.
